Luckily, I had the old motor, and "acquired" the new 5.0. I was able to take off parts as I needed them.

I used the oil pan from the old engine. I also use the heads, valve covers, intake and carb. I had to put new valve springs on that were compatible. The block was a straight-over swap, so I just had to borrow all the accessories. They bolted up to the same holes.

There was a different flex-plate (is that the correct term?) which I got off of ebay. a 157 tooth 50 oz balance. It was about $40.

Used the same starter (but swapped to a smaller higher torque one for the hellovit). Same headers. Same gt40 heads.

Had to buy a steel gear for my distributor since the new motor was roller and had a steel roller gear on the cam.

Other than that, I don't think anything else was different. Same water pump, just used it off the old engine. Same timing cover, etc.

I think I had to tap a hole for the 5.0 oil dipstick, and put in an allen plug.

good point on the dip stick hole. its located on the drivers side of the engine block and is intened to be used with rear sump oil pan. so as scooper said tap it and put a pipe plug in it. then on the timeing cover if you the one on the efi motor you will need to drill it out to recive a dipstick tube.

You'll need a timing cover with the hole for the dipstick or drill the existing one. Tap and plug off the hole for the original dipstick in drivers side of block. Correct oil pan/oil pump pick-up. Electric fuel pump. Correct flexplate.

    For starters.........

Just today we fired up a '93 5.0 in a 70 Mustang. I sold a buddy the engine I was going to put in my Mav and we installed it un the Stang. I have a couple of questions.
    Did you run p/s?
Alternator? I know theres a wiring mod. What is it?
Can you post a photo of the modded wiring?
