    WAIVER OF RESPONSIBILITY

Starting this thread to document my engine build apart from my project thread. I will warn everyone ahead of time that some of my methods are unorthodox and most likely more time consuming than a normal engine build. I am a stubborn old man with a little knowledge and less cash than I need to build what I want. I have a modest machine shop at home and have been in Aerospace Engineering careers for over 30 years. I always try to fabricate or refurbish any parts that I need if possible including tooling. That being said feel free to comment criticize (withing reason :) ) or kindly answer any questions that I may have during the build. Thank you in advance Dave

well heres a pic of the 1980 302 block with 84 mustang GT garbage on it. This is a picture as purchased last summer for almost nothing. I will start posting the build pics soon. I have it all disassembled cleaned etc and getting ready to bore .030" over.

yeh Dave it's a 302 it's a EOAE non roller block and has 4.000" bores with about .008" wear in them. block is solid no cracks or casting shifts. I just got done measuring the bores and will start boring in my garage soon :yahoo: I have a Lisle 18000 rack type engine hone a bucket with a coolant pump for the honing oil and real stout milwaukie 1/2" drive drill. I'm sure I can do some damage with that setup lol. I'm going to open them up to 4.025", then order my pistons before final dimension. I'm just going to try and keep everything cylindrical even and centerlined best I can without a block plate as well. I'm fairly confident I can get er done heck it's only 15 thou a side.... what could go wrong

    Sandblasted block

Some wip pics. Block degreased and sandblasted in my homemade cabinet because i'm too cheap to pay for hot tanking. My philosophy on this was I will be doing major deburring and radius work so I'll get the blast media out after I'm done. I even have most of exterior painted ahead of time to minimize rust when I get out the pressure washer before building. I will CSI clean this before doing anything.

Anyways it's real nice for me anyways to start with the cleanest casting as I can. I actually sandblasted every square inch of the block including inside water passage around cylinder walls.

chamfered the oil drain holes in galley along with oil filter passage today as well. I like using a cordless drill w/carbide burr, It takes a little longer but more accurate for me than my die grinder. end result same either way, better flow and drainage everywhere.
