When I finally get my mechanical stuff taken care of I want to then focus on the interior. I am honestly blessed with the wonderful condition of my vinyl and my headliner. However, I really am a huge fan of leather. Not just any kind of leather either. The Mercedez Benz leather (parchment is the color I favor if anyone cares). Would it be overkill to actually have the car reupholstered in leather. I really detest vinyl as it doesn't breath like genuine cow skin does. Long trips are hell on plastic. The other thing I was thinking of doing is replacing the "wood like" trim that's on the dash with burlwood that I finish myself. That's a simple little thing that I can do myself for sure. The question I have about it is, how do I get the plastic off without breaking it? Is it possible to dye or otherwise replace the plastic parts that have bleached a very odd and scary gray color? They're in excellent condition, just not the right color. Hope you all don't think I'm off my rocker. Lates, Paul
Can it be dyed? Yes. Do the whole interior in leather? Sounds very expensive. If you can afford it.......go for it.
Hey paul If your interior is nice right now, meaning clean with no rips, I honestly would leave it alone. Interior can be very difficult to make perfect. I have tryed paint the interior panels in my 86 stang gt from crap tan to black. WIth a lot of effort and careful spraying, it turns out good. However, there are many downfalls. It tends to scratch off real easy. I have heard that some upholstery shops can do it farely cheap. If you want to play around without jacking anything up, find a junkyard with a mav and pull a small interior part and buy it. Paint/dye it and install it in your car and leave it for a few weeks, see how you like it, and how it wears I have seen some people dye/paint the inside of their car, and the finished result can look like you literally took a can of spray paint to it.
The last thing I want is a shoddy looking job that requires lots of effort to get it that way. I've got bigger fish to fry with this car right now anyway. The ignition isn't turning off the car... it's only happened twice but it's freaking me out a bit and, (there's already a forum on it) I think it's a tad more important than the cosmetic appearance of an interior that's already okay. Paul; had the ignition problem you have. I replaced the solenoid switch on the passenger-side fender skirt, and it cured the problem. They are cheap, and easy to get to. It is right beside the battery. Just disconnect the battery first, or it might bite you. Good luck!!! Earl
