ok i decide to take my puke yellow maverick out today after letting it sit since april! i put the key in. the key turns really slugish like almost the feel of a sticky lock. so the door pin comes up. i push the button in...... it gets stuck in the pushed in position. door won't open :(

any thoughts on getting this open? thoughts on what happened? i am thinking a spring broke in the latch? i am about to take apart the door pannel but before i do and jack it up, cuz we all know door pannels are never the same after you take them off.

    thanks!

I think your latch is the culprit here ... I am thinking it is dry and cruddy.

I would try to shoot it with PB Blaster or some other penetrant oil ... try and sneek some in at the door jamb near the striker, maybe pop the trim surrounding the door lock and try spraying it from the top.

I had the same issue, but mine was from it being painted, the paint made it stick.

    Or a BFH!

Try spraying a shot of PB in the hole where the button is. These buttons are bad for sticking. You may still have something that has come loose inside but the button should pop back our regardless.

i'll try that. i'll use some JB-80 that stuff usually works. if i recall the striker can't be removed form the inside correct?

i didn't say i didn't drive the car. i still drove it! so way ahead of you there buddy! lol! then i rolled down the window and dukes of hazzard it!
    lol!

did that... nothing! :( i think it is beyond the button or key hole. :( then again i haven't checked it this morning. but it didn't work yesterday.

mine did that on the passenger side, took the panel off and lifted the latch to get it opened. Then it was just an adjustment issue on mine.

Pop the top of the handle with a closed fist. If it's just stuck it will likely just pop back out. I have done that on many a Mustang/Maverick when the button sticks.

ours did that, but it was sloppy hinges that were the culprit. we finally got it open, but it took three people. One pushing down on the door by the hinges. one pushing up at the bottom of the door below the handle, one jiggling the handle. because the hinges were bad, it wasn't aligned, then it sat, and the weight of the door made it so it wouldn't release. Then, I replace the hinges once I got it open!
