I don't think a stock set up will take that much..... My set up - case fill C4 with a B&M deep pan(+2qts), a 9.5" converter and a good size aftermarket cooler only takes 8.8 qts.....

The C4 will take about 10.5 quarts if the case, cooler and converter are all completely dry. if the converter has ever been run it is NOT completely dry.
The best thing to do is to buy a half case of type F fluid (12 QUARTS) SO YOU HAVE MORE THAN YOU NEED TO FILL IT.
Then before you install the C4 you put a couple of quarts in the converter and 3 in the transmission after you install it before you run the engine. Then you start the engine and begin adding more (engine idling in park) until the level is half-way between the FULL and ADD marks on the dipstick (while idling in park). Then you run it through the gears several times and recheck it (idling in park). Test drive it and make sure it is all working as it should and recheck the level (while idling in park) adding enough to keep it between the full and add marks.
NEVER overfill the C4. Did I mention that you always check the oil with the engine idling in Park?

Thanx Paul, looks like I will be going with a c4, as my AOD has been built twice and is still junk.

Question, what if you didn't put any oil in the converter (never been ran) and filled it out once installed and running in park (idling) would that cause the converter to have less oil than what is supposed to? I only recall putting no more than six quarts and the dip stick is already showing full.

No. The reason that you fill and check the fluid level in Park is that the converter fills in Park with the engine running. the converter fills before anything else happens. Putting a bit of oil (1 - 2 qts) assures that the thrust washers are well lubricated while it fills. It should have been assembled with an assembly lube but I like to make sure by putting oil in the converter upon assembly.
