    Hi

I am french ( sorry for my english ). I live in the south-west near Bordeaux ( the greatest red wine ..... you know ).

I don't have a Maverick and i don't know much about this car. That's why I'm on this forum. I need your help.

I found this 1970 Maverick for sale next to my house.

I can't have the owner on the phone to have informations about the car. So I try by my self

With the serial number on the dashboard ( 0X91T......) I found that the car has a 200ci ( right ?)
This one doesn't have a manual transmission. It has a shifter at the steering wheel like the semi-auto transmission.
But it seems that the 1970 200ci Maverick have only manual or cruise-o-matic transmission (right ? )
Can the Cruise-o-matic transmission have a shifter at the steering wheel or the shifter is alway on the floor?

If this car has a semi-auto transmission, how is it possible that it has the semi-auto with the 200ci?

Last question. Between the two taillight, there is on one side the Maverick emblem and on the other side, an emblem whith " Handley ". Do you have some informations about this "Handley" emblem?

I hope that you can help me.

    Thanks

Welcome to the center of the Maverick/Comet universe!!!The "handley" moniker is most likely from the dealership the car was originally sold at.
As for the shifter placement both the automatic trans and the standard 3 speed trans can have the shifter on the floor or the column. As for the semi auto trans, its possible the car has one since its a 70 model.Did you notice if it has a clutch pedal on the floor??? If so its the standard 3 speed or the semi. Your english is better than some americans so dont feel bad about it.Hope this helps you out.

Sorry for not having answered before.

    Thanks for all your answers

Mavman72, If the automatic transmission can have the shifter on the column, then this car has an automatic transmission.

Tody, the asking prise for this car is 2500€ ( 3233$ )

Your cars are all verry beautiful. If I buy this one, I hope that I can do something like this with it.

Question for Tody and Gran Maverick. How much did you lower the front of your Maverick? And How? Only cutting spring?

    Thanks

springs on my car were cut, for the rebuild i have used 1" lowering springs from the set offered by a company called "laurel mountain mustang".

2500€ is a decent price, if the floors, frame rails and cowl vents are good, i'd go for it.
maybe you can get more pictures of the car so we all can give you some advice on it!

Welcome to Maverick world! You are lucky to find a Maverick so close to home. There can't be to many Mavericks in France. The car looks very nice and its a '70 model one of the first ones. It looks like a great find.

Finaly, I could have a rendez-vous with the owner yesterday evening.

The car came from Canada and arrived in France in 1973 with its canadian owner.

The car has 98000 miles and it is in good shape. It was repainted 12 years ago. The paint isn't very good.

The outside: rust pushed the paint ( without piercing ) on the front of the hood and on one point on the bottom of each doors. The chromes are good accepted the two bumpers. no rust in the trunk ( tank is in good shape ) and a little under the fenders.
The floors are good. No rust inside (as i can see with the carpet on ) and under the car, not to mutch rust ( i didn't raise the car, i just lied down on the side )

Most of the rust is under the hood. But the rust did not pierce the steel. It's just on the surface ( for the moment )

The inside: the dash cover is split ( like on many cars ), the frond seat is in bade shape but the headliner is like new

I drove it. The engine run very well. The automatic transmission work very well to. The steering is smooth but there is a little time of reaction between the steering wheel and the wheels ( I don't know how to explain that in english but I hope that you understand what I mean ) it's the steering box, I think. The brake are very effective but the pedal is very hard ( because of the lack of assistance, i think )

What do you think about it?

    Other question:
Where can I find and buy parts for a 1970 Maverick on the internet?
Seat cover, brake parts, weatherstrip, accessories......
Tody, did you buy your Comet parts in Europe?

Is it possible to readjust the steering box?

rust on the hood lip and on the bottom of the doors is pretty common. depending on how bad it is, it might be easily fixed. try to look into the inside of the hood lip, maybe use the camera for that. so you can see how the structure is on the inside.
no rust in the trunk is a good sign.

have you ever driven a car that old? without a brake booster, the effort to press the brakes is harder than on newer cars.

a little slop in the steering can have numerous causes, but the steering box can be rebuilt: http://www.stangerssite.com/CanISteeringBox.html

overall, the car looks a little worn out, but nothing which is not fixable. from what can be seen i'd qualify this as a "rolling resto". maybe you should try to bring the price down to 2000€ - this would be a bargain.

i get the parts i need from various places. a lot from users on here, also a lot from motors.ebay.com. if you ask nicely and pay with paypal, nearly everyone is willing to ship overseas. apart from that, rockauto.com is my premier source for parts. fast shipping, nearly everything in stock, and you can sometimes even pay customs and taxes in advance.

would be cool to see another european member with a cool car on the forums :thumbs2:
