Trying to get this darn pioneer cd player to work and it has 2 power wires and 1 ground. I had it running for 5 minutes and then poof, i blew it up (smoke started pouring out of the player) I found out that one was for the backlight another 5 minutes later. Did i really just fry a good cd player by putting them 2 power wires together or do you think i blew a fuse in the cd player. This threads retarded If i just have one hot wire to one of the wires, it will not turn on. How do i get this darn thing to work without blowing up?
Usually when I hook up a radio for someone I use the red and yellow, they're both usually power, but I have no clue what could fry it. My car's power is the white, which is now hooked up to my oil temperature gauge as I don't have a radio anymore. I'm not really good with wiring, I just think I am.
Letting the smoke out is bad, but, Check your fuses first. batt wire is for memory, red for key on, black for ground. yellow and red can be tied together but radio will reset when you turn off the ignition.
Ok, 1. Get it on the patch, it's too young to smoke. 2. The Yellow and Red can be hooked together with no problems. If in doubt, run a wire from the batt to the yellow wire and the Red wire to the keyed power wire. 3. Make sure the Black wire is connected to a GOOD ground! If it isn't, it'll try to ground to the case and possibly fry parts. DO NOT trust the factory wiring! It may be too weak to support the added current or it may not be functional; at all. Trust me, I've fought Electrical Gremlins that drove me nuts until I ran a new ground. -Scott H.
I still wonder why it blew up in my face? i had the 2 wires together I found a wire thats always hot even witht he car off so im hoping this will be my battery wire if i didnt already fry the player.
Were you under the influence of mind altering chemicals when you wired it?? I dun thinks ya blowed it up.
Either way, take some tape and mark it for later use if the radio is dead. As for the frying, it could be anything from the bad ground I mentioned earlier to a piece of garbage floating around inside the unit grounding out a power circuit on one of the boards. Without actually having the unit in my hands it's hard to tell you exactly why it happened. -Scott H.
THIS^ Pioneers are notorious for grounding issues. Heck mine doesnt even ground on the black cable anymore, i have to ground it on the case bolt in the back. I have no clue how that happened....
Was that a new unit? Like everyone say's u shud be able to hookup those wires together w/o anything frying. I hookup a new unit but did'nt really trust going to the 38yr old fusebox. I got a accessory box from www.wiringproducts.com for $20.00 bucks "60A rated" and hooked everything non-factory to it. I used a 50A fuse/ 50A relay and ran a seperate constant 16ga w/ 10amp for constant pwr/memory for my stero. If ur using a used unit - no telling what was the condx when u got it. Like Cap. Bondo said it might had something loose inside that shorted. If that was the case it shud have blown the fuse. Im really like everyone else - DON'T REALLY HAVE A CLUE.
