yup broke my third thirdmember a few weeks ago anf i just pulled it out to have a look see - nothin but FUN broke teeth on the pinion gear and there is a crack where the bearing thing that holds it there ( seen in pic's )
Nice, looks like someone was having fun..... I always say if your gonna break it, break it properly.....
That sucks man! Looks like its time for a 9" swap. There are a few things that you can do to make the 8" live a little longer though. I have seen people do the same thing to a 9" with a mildly built 302 also. The main thing to make sure of is the proper gear mesh and backlash settings in the third member. The second thing is get a line lock and preload the drive train before you dump the clutch. Set the line lock and let out on the clutch a little to make sure all the parts are touching in the drive train before launch. This is why you hardly ever see an automatic car do the same thing unless there is way excessive backlash or improper gear mesh. Hope this helps a little. At least gives you someplace to start. The 8" should be able to hold an 11 second pass without a problem when set up correctly.
the thing is that i have a t-5 5 speed trans and a stock 3.25-1 ratio and some wheel hop and 275/60R17 tires and on this one i didn't even take it to the track and i didn't even drop the clutch to do a burnout i would hit the gas and brake at the same time then let up on the clutch i need to stop that lil bit of wheel hop and some 389-1 gears
i got the 9'' housing from maverickmaniac ?? just need a thirdmember a bit tight on cash (trying to get my dad to buy me one)
http://www.kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm pumpkin from an old pickup at the junkyard until you can afford high dollar gears
you should be able to get a junk yard one out of a truck or van with 3.50 gears. what spline axles do you have. just make sure the one that you get matches your axles.
