I just bought a TCI c4 trans to go behind my new 302 I'm building, The old 302/c4 thats in it is coming out ,I plan on taking the bell housing off my old c4 and using it on the new one . I noticed 1 thing different about the two transmissions the old one has the dipstick coming out of the pan were as the new one has it coming out the casing. Will the bell housing off the old c4 work with the new transmission? Because I don't want to buy a new one lol.
Usually the bell housing for the pan fill cases bolts to the case and the bell housing for the case fill cases bolt to the pump. The larger bell on the pan fill will not moumt to the case fill transmissions because they don't have the mounting flange for the large bell and the large bell hasn't got the pateern to bolt to the pump. To use the case fill C4 where it replaces a pan fill you will need the block plate, small 157 tooth flex plate, the small 10.5: pattern converter and the pump mount smaller bell. I would get a return number and send the C4 back to TCI and get a better one for less money from Jay at Broader Performance.
so I need a bellhousing ? I need to have all the parts ready to go for this project by Saturday. I cant return this trans I just don't have the time. Will I need a new flex plate and converter too ... the converter is brand new in my old trans. I was told that the bell and converter will swap out between the 2 trans.
I just took the trans back to Summit and got a pan fill large bell trans , It cost a lil more but will work with my old trans bellhousing and all that good stuff . Thanks for the info I would have never known there were 2 different c4's .
