New to the forum. My 13 year old son and I have been researching project cars. His name is... wait for it... Maverick, so naturally the Maverick is an option. Doing some research here on how easy/difficult it is to get parts and how much information is out there, what a fair price for a project car is, etc. Looks like a very good site, so we'll be lurking and asking a few questions if folks don't mind.

Welcome to the board. Most mechanical parts are still available through the local parts stores. Body parts are a different story. Not much reproduced but there are a few sellers on this forum. :Welcome:

So can either of you (or anybody else) point me to some place to get an idea of what fair prices are for Mavericks? I see a few for sale on ebay, and my gut tells me just like every other classic car these days, owners are sadly listing at prices like it is still 2 years ago.

Most auctions go "reserve not met"

What would one pay for a 1970 Maverick with a decent body, but needing an engine overhaul? $1000? $1500?

I'd watch ebay, also go to Craigs List. Check the want adds here also.:)

There's still some good deals out there. The 69 1/2 and 70 Mavericks are the only ones that use the drop in gas tanks. They are pretty hard to come by if you need one. Also they have the 4 bolt wheels and a smaller rear end than the later Mavericks. Up to 72 have the small bumpers but the later cars can get the small bumper swap if you find one of them in good condition. Also the later cars might have disc brakes already. Just a few things to think of.

BTW. If your up for a road trip in July. The Maverick Comet Club International is having their Roundup in Hannibal, Mo. (July 25th weekend). Car show Saturday. That's a little over 4 hours from you. Lots of nice Comets and Mavericks from across the U.S. and Canada. A week earlier is the Maverick Comet Group in Joplin, Mo. that ones a little further though. You're welcome to come and see some nice cars at either one.:)

Wow, this sure is a friendly forum. It's interesting to see how much activity and how much of a "family" the different forums are. The Maverick guys/gals are winning so far.

Saturday is the show. During the week they have cruises and get togethers for dinners etc. A lot of parking lot time in the evenings. The MCG is in Joplin and the MCCI is in Hannibal. The majority of cars are different but a few go to both, since they are so close together. This will probably be the last year they are close. Next year both will be in different locations most likely. :)

    Welcome aboard! :Welcome:
I agree...ya gotta get Maverick a Maverick! It's only fitting. Just keep in mind that our cars are slowly increasing in value. You mentioned prices of two years ago. Well, our cars are presently selling for higher prices now. That doesn't mean there aren't good deals out there because there are. There are a lot of folks not in the know and will sell cheap. The high prices of other cars are driving people to look for alternative options and a lot are going to the Maverick/Comet. Well, good luck to you and let us know if we can help. Our membership here increases daily and a lot of new members come on here that just purchased their car. So, get out there and get one quick. :)
