Found out from fordsix.com that it would be possible to fit a C3 bellhousing into a4ld transmission. I'm more of an auto guy and the folks over there said that this would be an option for an auto tranny with an OD for the inline 6.

But anyway, are C3s hard to find? Anyone know if they bolt ons to the a4ld? And speaking of the a4ld, where they good trannys or are they problematic?

    Ralf,
C3s were not made for a lot of models but you may be able to find a bellhousing at www.mmerlinn.com. You also might find one in a wrecking yard. Nobody much hangs on to them because they are not a very good transmission. The mod you are talking about is one I have never tried and know little about. Keep us appraised of your progress.

What made the a4dl a bad transmission exactly? Can it be fixed with a good rebuild or was it something else?

Paul meant that the C3 wasn't a very good trans. The a4ld was a good trans, and would be a good addition to an I6. Nothing like overdrive!

The A4LD is a decent transmission and can be improved with the addition of a TransGo kit - the C3 is a poor excuse for a transmission and you can put a C4 in its place with little trouble.
