Hi guys. I am going to install a 94 model 5.8 engine in my 72 GT and need some advice on few things. First of all, i was wandering what oil pan i should go for. I dont know enough about the later small block fords to be sure if there's a difference between them and the old ones. I know that my W has larger main bearings than the 302 mains, but im not sure if the rear seal is any different from one model to another.
So #1, advice on the pan.
Second thing, i am well aware of the header fitment issue, and am also aware of that on this message board there has been a lot of discussions about that particular issue. I might be capable of making my own pair if anyone has got blueprints or some points.
    #2 advice on headers
Other thing, i would prefer my mercury to be with a manual trans, but all I got is the standard 3 speed with floor shifter. Is it strong enough to handle a hot 5.8 or is there any known trouble with this trans that I am not aware of?
And finally, I'v got a rebuilt 9 inch with 4. 88 gears and locker. Am i able to go any faster than about 50 miles with the 3speed/9inch combo?

p.s I live in Iceland so I hope you can forgive my grammar...

if the 3 speed isn't modified I don't see it surviving long running over 300hp. beef it up or go with t5.

You cant use a 302 oil pan on a 351W...Pan rails are farther apart on the 351.
IE: 351 pan is wider from side to side.

Really? I would think that the 3 speeds would be kind of tough. The old 3 speeds that is:16suspect

The cast Iron case 303 trans behind the 302s' is pretty stout but its not bullet proof.

ok thanks guys. But could you point me at some good info or convertion chart where I can find out how tall gears I would have if I'd run, say 29 or 30 inch tyres compared to the original 8 inch rear?
And finally, should the original 8 inch handle my fresh 5.8?

Got myself a T5, but im lacking the proper bellhousing to go with my 5.8. Also, the trans did not have a shifter. Is there anyone there who's got a spare or can direct me to some site i can purchase one?

but about the diffrence in pans (302 vs 351), I've done a little work before on my friend in a 302-to-351 mod, and we did'nt have any time to find a proper pan, so we cut both pans in half and welded the 351 seat to the 302 sump, and I dont recall any trouble with that at all..

t-5 shifter can be got just about anywhere. Just order a short throw shifter for a 1987 mustang, handle I'm not sure, I have a old B M in mine off of god only knows what, but my stock mustang shifter looks like it will fit and feel better to me.
