Hello all, I just finished dropping a 351w in my 71 Maverick, the car cranks, but I have two issues no spark and no fuel. Here is the story:

    1. I wired everything the same way from when I had my 302. I installed a new distributor which has 3 wires vs. 2 on the one from the 302. I connected the 3 wires on the new dist as followL Red to the positive on the coil. Black to the negative on the coil, and I have a purple one that I guess could be for a Tach??? I ran the wires coming from the key ignition to the coil as well. I tested the #1 wire while cranking the motor and I'm not seeing spark.

    Issue #2:
    2. No fuel - I installed the same fuel pump I had on the 302. It sat there for 1 year so I'm guessing it's not primed since no fuel is going to the carb. Option #1 replace the pump, or #2 try to mess with this one til it works .

Any help you can provide would be appreciated. I can't wait to see what this 351W can do!!

Is it a stand alone distributor???...If so, one wire is for the ignition switch, key on power. As for the fuel pump...Pour some fuel in the float bowl(s)Thriugh the bowl vent of the carb and put a shot of fuel down the carb bores. After you get the spark issue fixed of course...Good luck!!!

Silly question but since no spark and fuel, Is the dist./camshaft turning?

I'm not sure if it's a standalone dist, if it's just one wire to the ignition switch (which makes sense) which ones go the coil? The cam and the dist do turn when cranking the motor. Thanks for your help again.

whats the brand of the distrubtors you had and have now. the 3 wire one sounds like its a duraspark one and needs a ignition box.
are you sure you dont have fuel?
does the 351 have the cam ecentric on the font of its cam?

I forgot I had not connected ground from the motor to the chasis, I heard that might be the issue. Also I had one wire pluged in the wrong place. I'll give that a try first. Thanks for all your help guys!!
