So how will that cam work with the lower compression? if I`m getting this right,,, everything gonna need balanced
Now im lost. The compression will be fine and the cam will work well. Its basically going to be a roller motor with flat top pistons. The new motor is an 87, honned and ready to go. Everything is 50 oz for that motor.
just because every part is for a 50 oz motor does not mean its a matched balance. the wieght of the rod piston combo is used when the crank gets balanced. sence your mixing pistons and rods the weight most likely will be different than what that crank was balanced with. you really should take the crank, rods, pistons, balancer and flexplate to a machine shop to be balanced. that is usually under $100.00 and can make for a much nicer motor.

That piston was likely broken while you were removing it. I bet you did not use a ridge reamer before you removed the pistons. What amazes me is that all of them didn't break a land upon removal. My thinking is that the ring caught on the ridge on the way out and you hammered it out.
The piece that fell off was clean, while the rest of the piston was dirty. It could be possible that it cracked on its way out but i just dont see how it did because i could push the pistons out with my hand lol.
My cheap Kodak Easy Share doesn't have macro settings...just flash settings and zoom. What I do is have the camera set to take high resolution photos then crop the photo. I took this photo about 4-6 feet away and the image is clear. I never use the zoom.
I forgot to add that when i had gotten the motor, that piston that was cracked was making a popping sound when you turned it by hand. ROOKIE!!!!
