I found an early 70s Maverick for sale, and im toying with the idea of buying it. I dont know much about the car, but what i do know is its a 2 door, grabber hood, sport mirrors, mag wheels, the floors seem to be ok but a little soft, it has the smaller chrome bumpers. not sure of the engine or trans, but that isnt important to me. The guy is asking 1500. he says it runs and drives. Im going to take a swing by it later and try and get a couple pics of it.

    :Welcome: from Northeast Pennsylvania

"Soft floors" are not OK - look under the car and pull up the carpet if you can to take a close look. (y)

looking under the carpet is going to be almost impossible at this time, the car is currently sitting at a detail shop that is usually closed when i get home from work, but i do plan on checking under the car with a good flashlight. The car has been there for a couple months. my biggest obsticale is getting the money.
I know what a pain fixing floors are, I did a drivers floor pan on a ranger, Im sure tha mav would be a lot harder considering floor pans arent available. Working in a bodyshop does have some advantages.

Hey and welcome from Cape Carteret, N.C. Make sure and check the tourqe boxes underneath the front floor pans, and the cowl. Look under the hood and make sure the cowl is not rusted through on the top of the firewall, as the cowl is the core of the upper bodies strength and can be the culprit of floor pan rust out. A bad cowl can rust out the a-pillars, so open the doors and make sure there is no rust showing through to where the door henges bolt on. As far as floor pans go, I have 1971 Mustang front floor pans in my Maverick. Of course, they had to be modified to fit the Maverick, but the general shape was there. If the cowl and tourqe boxes are good, it sounds like a good deal.

thanks for letting me know for things to watch out for.

here is a link to some pics i got of the car, it started raining before i was able to open the hood. I was riding a bike and wanted to get home before my cam and phone got wet. but the car looks very solid. http://s816.photobucket.com/albums/zz88/agrove83/maverick/

is it common for the cowl filler peice between the hood and windshield to be solid or have like a vent ?

Looks like the cowl vent has been filled in the pics. Thats usually (99% of the time) a signe that the cowl leaked due to cowl rot. Get under the dash with a bright flash light and see what you can see up there. Good luck!!!

A lot of damage and a lot of rust, some of it in critical spots. I'm not even sure what that gas tank is. Not a later strap type and not a 70 drop through tank either. Maybe best to turn your back on this one.

in the ebay description they say its a 70 grabber, from Florida the quarter damage is from the police doing a pit maneuver. as for the gas tank is a custom built tank. The auction ends in 2 days and there is no way i could even come up with enough money. Im going to keep looking.

After looking at the first half of the pics I'd say the car should be about $400 tops. IMO. I'd pass on it also.:)
