My cousin who bought my Stabber new in 71 told me I could pick up these heads from him anytime so this weekend I did. The heads were worked by John Reed (Reed Cams) in Decatur Ga in the early 70's. They were only on the car for 20 miles or so before they were removed. (there is a reason) Also while cleaning out his garage he gave me the original intake &carb, cam, and gear set. I got the original spec sheet on the cam that Reed came up with for the head cam combination along with a Reed Cams catalog from that era with some decals from Honest Charlies Speed Shop in Chatanooga. thrown in. The heads are 65 289 w/365hp 327 chevy valves, double valve springs, screw-in studs, guide plates, and a little porting/polishing.

I'm gonna run em' !!!! and yes he is a prince of a man. He gave me all of this on the condition that none of it is to be sold. Here are some more pics. Also I went by my dads old shop today and dug out the old sidepipe covers.

In 1971, there was an Honest Charlie's in downtown Decatur, less than 1 mile (as the crow flies) from Reed Cams. Back then, Reed was grinding good stuff. They are located in Stockbridge, GA now and most of the engine builders I know quit using their stuff years ago. It seems the quality went downhill.

I'm glad to say the heads did"nt come off due to quality but rather due to the wrong pushrods being installed.

those heads are almost identical to mine. same cast number except i have triple valve springs, big block chevy valves and mine are decked and ported. 1200 worth of work. picked them up for 350 and they had never left the machine shop.
