JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE HEADS ON MY 1968 MOTOR OUT OF A 71 MAV' WILL NEED THE HARDEND VALVE SEATS TO RUN UNLEADED. WITH THAT IN MIND, COULD BE UP TO $400 TO DO THIS. MY MACHINE SHOP SAID GET SOME HEADS WITH A D-CASTING. THE ONLY IMPROVEMENT I'LL DO IS UP THE CAM TO A RV CAM FOR A LIL BEEF OF THE LINE. SO CAN ONE OF YOU TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR? AND BY THE WAY, AS OF NOW STOCK INTAKE AND 2BBL CARB.

e7's would be the easiest if you just want a mild motor. They came on the 5.0 mustangs and work well. If you port them they will flow nearly as well as gt40's I believe. You should be able to get a set at any junkyard for arounf $75 since they are nothing special

I just looked in the classifieds and there is a set of 289 heads that have been redone with roller rockers at a good price. they would also work well with what you are trying to do. sorry if this i against the rules

I tried. Just call around the cylinder head shops in your area. I bought a redone set of e7's for around $200.

no problem. That would be your most economical way to do it. I take it since you plan to run a stock inake and 2bbl carb you just want a good running engine and don't plan on racing much.

Did you get a price on the RV cam? they're usually just regrinds and cost the same as a name brand cam kit.

no, but the cam that was in this was in so-so shape. the cam bearings were so rough, that i dont think the cam can be saved. can you give me more info on the rv cam thing?

It varies by the shop, but my local ones sells regrind camshafts for around $170 and they call them RV cams, they're basically a little better than the stock ones.

but for 302's they're really not worth it since you can get cam kits for around $100-$150 new.

here's how the regrind process works, has some neat videos too! :)
