Ok SO....I traded a honda cb350 for a 4 door maverick with a 302....66000 miles, excellent condition, brand new intake, carb, and various other things. he told me it wont run and needs a new intake gasket....i started it, drove it down the road and back (crappily) and tore into it. he had the intake bolts finger tight and hadnt even bothered to scrape the old gasket off before installing a new one. i got it all straightened out but in a moment of excitement pulled the distributor....without marking it. Of course. I cannot get this car to fire now to save my life. I have combed this forum but i must be missing something...i know its because i haven't got the distributor in correctly... Can somebody please give me a run down on how to get it going again? It would be MUCH appreciated.... Thanks!!!
Also...even if I get it to TDC, how should the distributor be situated? And just to be sure...the #1 cylinder is front passenger side right?
The vacuum advance pod should point straight forward, maybe a little toward the battery, #1 on the cap will be at about the 1 o'clock position. firing order is 15426378, counterclockwise on the cap.
Good advice given! Only thing i can add is that if you go to put the distributor in and it's not directly pointing at a spot on the cap for a plug, then you have it wrong. It would be a tooth off and not run this way. Take your time, be patient and it will come together
Look real good for pointer! Gonna have to get one if missing for proper timing, car will run but it`s needed to fine tune time engine. Didn`t read teck link, not sure if it says about bumping engine over to seat dist. last half inch. all good points above
get the number 1 cyl to tdc than get your rotor to point to the number 1 cylinder on the cap(follow the # 1wire back to the cap) this should put u about where ur timing needs to be...also whats ur firing order...there are 2 sets one is for ho motors and one is for older motors and trucks...if the 302 is factory u need to find the old firing order and make sure it's correct
1 5 4 2 6 3 7 8 is old/most common ford I always drop my dizzy in, then run my plug wires... not the other way around
Thanks everyone!! I'm almost there....having some flooding issues now with the carb but got it to run for a little while and it sounded great....
