First I want to say that I have loved Mavericks since I built my first snap-tite model as a kid. For those of you that remember: it was the yellow one. I'm afraid I always thought the big bumpered Mav. looked a little stodgy though. Last night the first cruise night of the season was held here in Burlington, Ia. I parked my recently purchased '77 Maverick next to my buddy's 360 powered '65 Rambler American. His car always gets a lot of attention and last night was no different. What surprised me was that my little 6 banger, three on the column, big bumpered, tiny tired Maverick got a great deal of attention, too- easily more than my recently sold '68 Cougar got in recent years. I'd been a Cougar owner for almost twenty years and this one still looked cosmetically great with Grabber Orange paint, Cragar mags, and a 5 speed. (I'll post a pic in my gallery.) Hands down, more people looked at the Maverick than ever looked at the Cougar. I thought that was pretty cool and wanted to share.
Thanks for sharing. Most of us that go to show & shines, cruises, drag racing, etc... We get alot of attention also. Everyone has a story about a Maverick or Comet from there past... And wish they still had them.....
Thanks. I've only had the Maverick about three weeks, but I'm having a lot of fun driving it and tossing different plans around in my head.
I have people come up to me at gas stations and stuff all the time, and have been asked countless times if I want to sell it. and my car is a total P.O.S... These cars just seem to generate a lot of attention these days. Seems everyone has their own Maverick story, weather it be one that they had, or one that a friend or relative had. Great looking car. I'd tuck the bumpers, or do a small bumper swap, and let it ride.
Super sharp Maverick! I can see why it drew so much attention. Those magnum 500s look sweet on it. Great find!
Thanks everybody. I'm loving the car. Quite a few rock chips. The previous owner used it as a daily driver from about 19000 mi. to a little over 55000. He lives in the country on a long gravel lane. Said he stopped driving it when he noticed a bit of rust behind the rear wheels. It's a pretty solid car, especially for Iowa. I have the v8 and t5 from the cougar in my garage, but that little six runs so well I kinda hate to pull it.
