ring and pinion ?

    do i divide the pinion into the ring gear to get my ratio?
    35 on the ring and 9 on the pinion 3.8888888?
    do i have a 3.80 and how much better would that be compared to my 3.50
    thanks john
    trying to get a better 1/4 mile time and i have this set of gears i could put in.

    From a 3.80 to a 3.50 is insignificant enough to be acheived through tires alone, not gonna change quarter mile significantly

    3.888 rounds UP to 3.90's. And yes, they will give you better 1/4 mile accelleration, provided you have enough traction to use the extra ratio.

    i think i can put it to the ground with my hoosier quik times it bit pretty good at the track the last time i was there but i ran out of gear at the end of the 1/4 was only turning 4800 rpm and my cam is good to 6200 rpm

    The 3.90's are going to still put you short of 6200 rpms. 4800 will change to 5348. If it's a street/highway driven car, then you don't want more gear than 3.90's. If it's a strip only, then you may want to go as high as 4.30's, again, provided you have the traction to take advantage of the extra ratio.
