allen, to take the dash out is a large can of worms. if you need to replace the windshield and or seal that would be the best time. i don't see an easy way without taking out the windshield. there are 3 or 4 small bolts under the seal at the bottom of the windshield.
the dash pad is another thing. i have taken out 4 or 5 and replaced two. i start with taking the inst. cluster out, then the light switch. next the wiper switch. to the right is the ashtray. take it out and then take the tray holder out ( three screws). if you have air the louvers in the dash need to come out (two screws). the bottom dash panal comes off and drop the steering column. you will need to drop this to get the inst. cluster out. the speedo cable has a funky connector on it , try not to break it, they are brittle. unplug the wireing harness. again be careful with the ears on the plug.
i lay the old pad on the outside of the windshield, that way i can see where the studs in the pad are. the real dog is the ones on each end. they are little bolts. they are a size smaller head than the nuts. try not to drop any bolts or nuts. they seem to go where you can't get to them.
good luck and if anyone thinks of something else please post it. sorry it wasn't shorter..frank...

    Dash removal

    Frank,
Thanks for the tips. I am not looking forward to the task but it has to be done in order to have the factory air back in. At least thats what I am thinking right now. I can not figure out how the
original owner pulled it all out without doing so himself. I may be opening a complete can of worms when doing so. With the way he had done other things on the car he may have cut all wiring etc. and I know he removed all duct work.Wish me luck. This is part of my winter project.

    Thanks
    Allen Small

PS: I hope you took no offense on the paint job comment. I just assumed with what you had done on your other maverick and seeing the roof that you would be doing like wise with this one.
everything you have done to date looks great.

allen, no offense taken on the paint job comment. maybe after putting 14k in a car and it turns out to be a bust i was a little testy.
as for the dash i don't think he took it out to do what he did to the a/c. from what i know about dashes, it would have to be in to put the a/c in...frank...:bananaman :bananaman L.T.N.G.

    dash

    Frank,

Finally got the nerve to check out what the other guy did to the car to remove a/c unit. He basicly removed everything fan/heater
core, duct work, cut he wiring you name it he did it. It going to be tough track down what wire goes were now. Do you happen to now were I might be able to locate a diagram showing me all the
    underdash wiring?
Getting the seats is like having Christmas a month early!:D :bananaman

    Thanks

    wiring

    Frank,

Fortinately I have a complete wirinf harness from a 73 with air.
bought another 73 grabber last year as a donor car to get all the parts that the guy had stripped from my car. Did not know then if I needed it but took it out just incase. Glad I did now, just have to trace all the wiring back down and figure were it all goes. A lot of needless work because someone else did not care.
    Thanks for the input.

I got mine from Autozone. They were actually cheaper than the 194s that were in there. I also swapped out all four sidemarker bulbs with these 5 watt bulbs and you talk about brighter!!!

Allen these sites may help you out...I am just about complete with installing a new EZ wiring harness in my car and they have proved more than helpful !! My new guages will be here Tuesday so I hope to have everything wrapped up by the weekend. I am stripping mine down though. No A/C, no heater. Just the bare necessities. Hope it helps...
