hello, converting to a floor shift and need some assistance in locating the Neutral Safety switch/wires. I have the reverse light switch on the column where it meets the firewall on the inside. But it looks like the safety switch maybe within the column under the steering whee. Does anyone have a wire diagram for a 77 Mav? thanks for the help.

yes I found this earlier today. Question stands the same. Where is the neutral safety switch for a 77. Looking over the diagrams, there isn't one for a 77. For 76 the backup light switch and the nuetral safety have a combined switch not so with a 77. Any thoughts on what were out of the ignition switch maybe the trigger where for Neutral or Park? thanks

Nope....I was looking thru the wire diagrams also, mine will be easy to put the floor shifter into.
Wonder why there is none listed for your car? strange:16suspect

the netrual safty is mechanical. its built into the colum. when the shifter is in in p or n you can turn the key to the crank postion. when the shifter is in any other postion you cant turn the key to crank. you can cut the wire that comes out of the colum that goes to the starter solinoid and rout it to the netrual safty switch on your floor shifter.

okay so the one that just goes to a loop? for a 76 it would go to the normal horseshoe switch. thanks

that was the trick I cut that wire (blue/red) and then ran to the switch. works like a charm. only concern now is how to pin the steering column so it doesn't rotate and cause it not to turn over. Anyone else have a fix for this?

the linkage should be locked so the...key...will turn and the...steering wheel...does not lock while going down the road...:yup:
mine has done both...:yikes:..once i turned the key and nothing (column safty switch) the collar had turned a little. next i was turning into the driveway and the car went straight with the steering wheel locked...
I had it locked with a piece of wire that had come loose...:bouncy:

    ...:drive:...
