I was out yesterday getting up parts for my disc brake conversion and was talking to the guy at parts store about trying to find a 9 inch rear. He said the guy across the street had a 73 Bronco chasis in an old barn, so we called him up, he said come over and take a look. We had to cut the lock of barn, climb over a bunch of stuff and there was the chasis. It has a 9 inch rear, not sure of gear ratio, complete front axle, and an old winch mounted to the frame. He priced it for $300,I was thinking I could sale the winch,if it works, and front axle and basically have a 9 inch for free. He wouldnt budge on price,so I told him I would come back Friday and dig it out. I hope this turns out good.

How does the width of the Bronco rear compare to the Maverick?

when he said that the guy "wouldn't budge on the price" I kinda got the idea that he probably did offer him less...

That is like the small difference between a stock Maverick rear and my Versailles 9 inch - right around an inch wider per side. :thumbs2:

Sounds like that Bronco rear will work then.

yup the Versailles is exactly 1" longer per side

    58.5:bouncy:

But the bronco has 5x5.5 bolt pattern. That might be a problem....

The spring perches may not line up perfectly like a Versailles 9" either but I'm not sure. But that's not too hard to change if you can weld from what I hear. Maybe you can just swap the axleshafts to get the right bolt pattern. You should be able to sell that front Dana 44 pretty easily. They're a pretty common swap for smaller vehicles lookin for a solid front axle.

I think with a little looking, a little head scratching, and a little measuring, me and buddy John will make work.

you can get the axles redrilled to a 5 x 4 1/2 bolt patern along with the drums. that diff most likely has 3.50s. it could be 28 or 31 spline and may or may not have a limited slip. if that front end is a dana 44 you should be able to sell it fast for more than your 300 invested.

One of your Dixie Maverick buddies has a jig for matching the pinion angle and spring perches to your 8 inch rear end. PM me for details.

I have that same rear end up in my attic. At least, I have the housing. and I was surprised at how close it was in length to the maverick.

I talked the guy down and got mine FREE!!!
