I always considered it a beak. The Cyclones had a large one as well. OH and welcome back! Stay a while this time!!!

Today is the day I make purchase on my car and I'm Stoked!! This weekend I came up with the idea to use AAA to tow the car home, thereby saving me a bundle on shipping/renting fees (the only truck at my disposal wasn't roadworthy).

I have two options I'm looking at today, only $100 difference between the two: a 71 Mav I6 that ran 6 months ago but has engine/electrical issues now, and the 71 Comet V8 that's been sitting since 92. I really want the V8 but am nervous about the car's condition; the owner said it started up and drove (once) about 2-5 years ago but sat before and since. I want this car (whichever I get) to be a daily driver within a month so am crossing my fingers, but it's nice to have options.

Right now I'm chomping at the bit here at work; tried getting today off but that wasn't happening. As soon as this place is done with me though I'm outta here!! :-D

I would go with the one that has the least rust, cheak under the carpet the front floorboards, cars that sit for a while will sometimes rust out were the fresh air vents through that can be expensive to fix, everything being equal imo would go with the V8, it would surely already have the 5 lug wheels, heavier springs,10 in brakes that the 6 may not have, you'll be a winner ether way!

My thoughts exactly. I'm definitely going to thoroughly inspect that V8 to be sure of what I'm getting but, gah, a 71V8. The owner swears it's solid and seems to know his Comericks (he has a Grabber, this was grandmas car which was going to be his son's ride but he wanted a truck) so I'm hopeful. 18 years is a long time to sit though.

Pics will hopefully be available tonight, should be interesting either way it goes. :D

buy both cars and use the comet as a parts car for the maverick.then sell the rest of the comet as a parts car, after all thats the natural order of things.

You have NO idea how much I want both cars!! For both would be about $1700 (plus 2008 backtags on the I6) and The Dude wants the other I don't get. But at the moment I'm stretching the bank as it is (at least until my 401k money comes in; relax, I didn't do that loan just for this car). But, oh man, if I could do that...

Such thoughts make my heart go pitterpatter. Does this mean I'm addicted (still)? ;)

it could but the first step is admitting you have a problem

Problem? Moi?! I do not have a problem, just a...situation. Thing. Where I love cars. Lots, and lots, of cars.

Of course it's not just about cars: after I bought my GL500 (motorcycle) I got a little crazy and now also have a CX500 (The Dude uses it as his daily driver) and a CX650 part bike (translation: they're all basically the same bike [except the 650] in the same way the Comet and Mav are the same car). And I want another.

    I'm sensing a trend... but I don't feel I have a problem. :thumbs2:

    :)bs:)

    New pwner of...

I am now the semi-proud new owner of a 1970 Ford Maverick 200cid I6. The V8 Comet guy wasn't available to take delivery as he had to work, so I went and looked at the other car. I have pictures and while I was disappointed by the displacement it was all there, had an entirely new wiring harness, and rims which included oversized rears, for $900, so I caved.

As far as I know I'm still getting that Comet. The thought of a 71 V8 still makes me happy but this 200-6 will have to tide me over.

Pics will follow as I'm writing this on my phone but it looks solid. I'm actually wondering if I should just invest the Comet's allocated funds into a used C4/V8 combo... But that's a thought for a later date. Right now I'm happy and looking forward to some wrenching. ;)

The Dude has promised to get up early to work on the wiring (the PO bought an entire new harness but only hooked maybe 20% of it in and poorly at that); hopefully that won't take more than a few days to finish. But it's solid: large rear wheels, no rust we could see (but a lower-mediocre paint job that is already ejecting bondo), Dude's brother thoughthe saw an 8.8 rear (that's not stock is it?), etc. While I'd be happier with a bigger engine (200ci *sigh*) that can come later as I wanted it as a daily driver not a rally/race car anyway. Even the parents don't mind much (as soon as I told them it's a small engine that'll get better gas mileage than my Subaru), just gave me the thumbs up and a "Have fun". Wasn't expecting that lol

It needs all new weatherstripping, molding, shocks, rebuilt (1bbl) carb, wiring and a bunch of little things everywhere. But it could be worse. For under $1k I think I did alright.

I just wish it was a V8. *sad sniff* Im still crossing my fingers on the Comet but the guy has been busy a lot and not returning calls or texts so I'm hopeful but not holding my breath. No matter, pretty Maverick in my parking space! Glee!!!

Okay so I uploaded a few phone-camera pics I took of the car yesterday into my gallery here. Click on the links to take you to the bigger picture in the gallery:

:bananaman It makes me happy. :thumbs2: The guy in the black shirt is The Dude, who's as stoked with the car as I am. (Frankly he's hoping I get the Comet and sell him this one but we shall see!)

Yes it's "only" an I6, has wiring issues (I'll try to get pics of that, it's a scream) and a spewing carburetor, but it's MINE. Glee!!
