I am running the alternator on the stock setup from my 302, but on a 5.0 block. I am converting to serpentine, and want a new alternator with the serpentine pulley. Do I keep using the stock 302 bracket, or is the 5.0 setup different?

Also, since I have converted to a 1-wire and am currently running a 63A GM alternator, and I want more amps, would I be better off with a stock 5.0 replacment, or should I buy a 1-wire from Summit/JEGS?

Scott; I have a 3G alternator, and it comes from a F450-600 pickup. It is 95amp, and has the same form factor as the stock alternator, so you would use the same bracket.

    Scooper,

Are you going to be running any aftermarket aluminum serpintine pulleys?

The reson that I ask is that I'm at a loss looking for nice aluminum pulley set that isn't built to be an underdrive set. Just looking for a standard ratio set. Serpintine or even V-Belt.

Just seems hard to find

I am staying with stock pulleys. I will most likely buy an aftermarket water pump and alternator. Otherwise, staying stock, but just running the water pump and alternator on the serp setup for now. I may add the A/C later on.

I took a drive around town and found a buddy with a 5.0 with serpentine belts, and took a look under his hood. I found that I was looking at the wrong bracket, thinking that the one that holds the alternator and tensioner was the one that went on the A/C. got that figured out, and now it makes much more sense.

I need a one wire alternator. I have removed all the other voltage stuff, so I have to find a 1-wire that will fit in this bracket. Shouldn't be too difficult, considering that it is basically a Mustang at this point, under the hood.

OK, I just found the diagram and thread for wiring up that 3G alternator, and it looks like it hooks up just like my GM 1-wire. Does that regulator doohicky with the 3 wires on it (including the ALT light wire) come with the 3G alt, or do I have to buy that separately?

Also, part numbers for the alternator and regulator wiring doohicky?

The other thread says that 3G alternator is 130A!!! Will this burn up my setup?

It is capable of putting that much out, but it will only produce what is demanded of it. Most people recommend a circuit breaker or maxi fuse with an alt that big though.

Yes, the diagram has a 175 megafuse inline to the hot wire.

I don't need that much juice. I was hoping it was 95A like Earl said. I guess I need his part number...

I have a 150 amp 3G wired as a 1-wire going into a 175 amp megafuse. Using the stock brackets, just had to cut a piece of pipe to make a new spacer between the alternator and head. While you're taking the time to upgrade you might as well go big, it doesn't cost much more.
