    Hey guys,

My name is John. Im thinking about buying a 1970 maverick from NM which is quite some distance from me as i live in NJ. It seems to be a great deal but getting it home is going to be a little hard i think. Im hoping to get some good incite from you all if i make this purchase.

Depending on condition of car,,, I've had tons of fun flying out and driving cars back!!! I stop at Sears an buy a small tool kit to carry on the way back just in case.

If you want to transport, there is a past subject on the matter if you do a search.

ALSO, Welcome from Pittsburgh Pa! Hope you get your car!

Thanks! well the car does not run because the previous owner was diagnosed with cancer and his daughter is trying to sell it. The car comes with two engines though, the original 302 and a v8 from a Lincoln (not sure which year or size). The car is rust free, with brand new tires on all 5 chrome rims, primer grey, and also comes with a ton of chrome parts. They only want $1000 for it. The owner is supposed to be sending me more pictures as we speak! im pretty excited.

Turns out the floors of the car are completely rusted out from the pictures. And the rust is also in the trunk and gas tank. The hood was also fitted with what looks like a chimney...lol. Also the 302 is non existant. Its a 6 under the hood. I don't think this particular car is a good deal. Even for the price.

Welcome to the board. Don't get discouraged. There's other closer Mavericks or Comets out there. Quite a few members in the N.J. area. I grew up in Montclair.:Welcome:

yeah, if you keep your eyes peeled youll probably find a decent deal in a relativyly short time . just keep checking craigslist, and ebay for any local sales, maybe even put a want ad in the wanted section of this forum or your newspaper. just keep looking, mavericks are lotsa fun to drive and to work on, and bystanders seem to love em even tho no one really knows what it is. ha. but thats all the fun. and being that there small and lighweight it dont take much to make em pretty fast. :chirp:

There are a couple real nice Mavericks on Ebay right now for REAL good prices if they don't get bidded up at the last minute. One is a 6 cyl with AC and a buy it now price of $4,000 The car looks to be in great shape.
I bought both of my Mavericks off ebay and am happy with both of them. Just call and talk to the seller on the phone and get a good feel for them before commiting. I talked to both of the guys that I bought mine from multiple times over the phone and multiple emails before I commited to the buy it now button and before I send the good faith deposit. I mean even at the worst case the worst thing that is going to happen is you are going to waste your time bidding and going out to look at it and get a negative feedback that you have every right to counter act and protest.

    OK guys,
i found a new car to look at which is only about an hour and a half from me. Its a 74 mav with some 71 and 72 exterior parts. He wants a little over 1900 for it. The interior seems to be really nice and the exterior has some body work done. It has a 6cyl in it right now with the option of buying his 302 with the conversion parts for an extra 800 dollars. Right now the car is primered from the guy starting the body work so im hoping there is not too much rust on it. I scheduled to go see it tomorrow after 5:30.

    Here is the listing: http://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/1651742550.html
