I have a 351w tore apart. It is already .030 over and the #5 cylinder has a sleeve in it. It looks like the sleeve has dropped don about a 1/4 inch from being even with the deck. I am kinda scared to run it. I was wondering what your opinions on this were. I am taking it to school tomorrow to get the professors opinion. I am thinking of getting another motor but not sure yet
I am going to get the teacher to look at it but I am pretty sure I am going to get another block since its nothing special about this one
If the sleeve dropped down the bore...It wasnt installed properly (gotta leave a step at the bottom of the bore) Find another block. That one cant be re-sleeved properly and be reliable.
I don't see why anyone would bother sleeving a 351W. These blocks are too easy to come by to even bother. Get anther block and sell that one for scrap.
x's 2. It's more expensive($100) to sleeve it than to pick up a short block($79) at the junkyard here.
I bought another 351w today for $100 and it is much better looking. It actually has oil in the lifter valley instead of gunk in the other one
when a cylinder gets wore out or is bored to much they can put it in and it is like replacing the cylinder. If done right it will be ok but the other block I had the sleeve had dropped down
If done correctly,it'll last the service life of the block. Alot of the purist crowd do it to keep their car all orig. and numbers matching.
I did it once in my 429 CJ because the block was heavier than a stock 429 block. Not a huge deal and I put a ton of passes on that motor with the sleeve. As been said, if done correctly it will last as long as the block.
