I'm buying Maverick #2 this week. It's a 72 2 door with a 200 6 cyl. My son is 11 years old. I'm buying this car as a project for the two of us. He'll have a license in about 5 years. In that time we can work on the car and learn it inside & out. By the time he gets his license, we can have it finished and he'll have a very cool first car. He's very excited (me too). The car's not too bad. The rear quarters and driver's door are rusted. The interior is really pretty nice. The driver's seat only has about a 5" tear, that's right on the seam. Headliner & everything else are pristine. It has a couple of dents here & there, but it's all the better for him to learn on. It's gonna be cool. We all like photos, so here's a few...
Sounds like a great project for the two of you! Nothing like spending time together, working on cars, and making memories!
my son chris,(17) and i started on his car when he was (15). we were messing with his car yesterday and he was telling me about something he heard on t.v. they were talking about bonding with your kids. they suggested, "pitching a ball, shooting some hoops or riding a bike together." my son asked " what is wrong with bonding by swapping some doors or fenders, or a v8 motor swap on a mav."? i got to love him
I always ask my Dad if we could get a maverick or somthing to restore but he always says "I'm not ready for a car" ,what does that mean:confused: .
Well, i got my first mav when i was twelve so me and my dad could work on it. Now that i have my car its more of a i work on it and he watches and gloats to his friends. It sure has been a great bonding tool. I plan on getting a new one soon hopefully!! -Todd
lol...Working on cars is awesome bonding time. Unfortunately, I think my stepdad bought my Mav not to bond w/ me, but just for his own fun! j/k. We've spent a lot of time on it, and I for one am grateful . So good for you -David p.s. In case you guys haven't noticed, I like smileys :bananaman
Maverick Mike- It may mean he's not ready to see you grow up so fast. Because once you finally get your wheels and license, your going to be out with the boys and away from him. Life changes at that point when you finally have your first car. Your going to have fun out with your buddies and chasing girls around. It's a stage in life that your just going to go through. As a kid, I always enjoyed hanging at the races with my dad and thought he was the GOD of Racecars since none of my other friends fathers raced. And they all thought my dad was the racing God too. But then when I got my license, "It wasnt COOL" to hang around dad on a Friday or Saturday night. I think its GREAT that you asked us "What does that mean?" ... if you really want to know what it means, ASK YOUR DAD You two will have more fun with one another having an open relationship than if you just wondered "what he ment by that" Trust me, I've been there and missed out on not talking to him when we should have... so, ask him. you'll be glad you did. then you'll know why.
Brought Maverick #2 home today. My son and I can't wait to get started on it. Maverick73, I paid $300 for it. I think I got a good buy. The car's really not bad.
