I am an old car enthusiast and have a '65 Mustang coupe that is fully restored. Now I am working on a '71 Maverick 302 deluxe that will get a restoration and conversion to a Grabber. I'm interested in doing as correct a job as possible and have a couple of questions for anyone with knowledge of details for the '71. Did the '71 Grabber have bright drip rail trim? Mine had a vinyl top (which will disappear forever!) and it had the trim, but not sure if the trim will be correct without the vinyl. Was the rear window corner trim chromed or painted with the body? I've seen pictures of the blackout rear light bezels; Were the headlight bezels blackout also? The graphic on the Grabber hood; was that a decal or paint? If paint, is it a flat blackout color, or semigloss? Is there a template for it? Glad to have found this group with others that appreciate this cool and underappreciated little muscle car. Diane
and I'll give it a shot. Yes, Grabbers did have the bright drip rail trim, with and without the tops. Boomerangs (as we call them) the corner trim piece is chromed. Tail light bezels were black, depending upon your tail light panel color, and headlight bezels were black, to match the grill. Grabber hoods had paint one year, and decals the next., and it's color depends upon the color of the stripe. There are templates: http://www.graphic-express.com/ford_maverick_grabber.asp I may have missed something, and if I did, I'm sure someone else will respond.
from Northeast Pennsylvania If you look through the photos on this site, you may see the answers to most of your questions.
Dave is pretty much right on...mine is original and the description fits...my hood stripe was painted on and the side stripes are reflective...grabber blue with white graphics.
Welcome to the Madness of Old Cars!! Mustangs are good, too. In fact, it's all good!! Hope you enjoy your '71. Jim
