Frank stopped by around 11:30 today to give me a hand installing a new timing chain. Before we got busy we meet up with Earl to eat lunch at Baby Jane’s. I used a pre-emission ’69 gear set because of the keyway cut on the cam gear is different. This sprocket gives me about 7 degrees more advanced valve timing and more bottom end torque. The emission 250 cam gears were retarded twice for better emission but this also killed power…thanks again to Earl and Frank for the help.
...A large time was had by all

My 1976 with a 250 is a dog.....maybe a new cam sprocket set would wake it up.

I'll be sure to post the results when I get it running. I will be ordering a new Harmonic Balancer and it will take a few days for the part to arrive.

I just got back from running down the road and back. The lil six woke up a lot with this timing set modification. I still need to play with the carburetor and distributor. It’s a real seat of the pants difference when taking off from a dead stop. The Mav felt light on its feet. I think the end results was worth the effort.
