Drivers rear cylinder blew under hard braking on the way home today! Parts will be here Monday. I took off the wheel to see the problem...yeah. Car fell off the jack. Forgot to block the tires because I was in a rush and in a bad mood. That only made my mood worse. I get the car back up, bleed the rear again in a feeble hope that it might help so i can go to work at 6am but alas, it was for naught. Bubbles of fluid from the cylinder and the shoes move and go right back. Dang. Another $75 bucks. I'm going to do both at the same time might as well.
    Wonderful day.

75 bucks? :16suspect Last time I bought them (2005) they were like 8 bucks each from Advance Auto. Those have 112,000 on them now, and still work great.

if your talking about replacing lining due to being wet, spray clean with brake cleaner will clean them up, unless they`re close to worn out. check rubber hose on rear while your at it. Good luck

I agree with Jamie. I just bought 2 rear wheel cylinders and rear brake shoes for the red GT and they were only around $55, tax, title, and out the door at Advance. If you are just replacing one wheel cylinder, it should be around $15. What are you replacing? Good luck with it.

Replace both cylinders; don't risk ur life and others $20.00 or so bucks. If they were put on the same time - replace both at the same time. Also, I wud replace the hose too - not much worst feeling than pressin the pedal and it sinks to the floor.
I think that is a ruff day when car falls of jack - Cud have been much worst if it had fell on you. JMO:smash:

Strange, I see they have a set that have a 1-1/8 bore for $12.49, and another set with a 27/32 bore $35. I wonder why the difference?

I presumed the bigger bore was for the bigger brakes that the V8 cars had...seemed like a logical assumption at the time and I have no way to actually measure it. I ordered the left and right side rear. They also have the fronts but they are way cheaper and smaller apparently.

This is so uncool but all part of the madness. I'll go ahead and redo the shoes too I guess.

Probably a power vs. manual brake thing. I've notice our cars have two different master cylinder bores listed too.

Well I have no way to check the bore diameter. I hope I got the right ones. It listed these as being correct so...if not then I have no ride to work next week.

If ur shoes have less than half lining left - I wud replace them to and be through w\ the job. When u have a 40 yr old car there's enough other issues to deal with besides repeating the same job.
