Mr. H, who i have known for about a year, passed away this morning at 95 years of age. He lived about 10 minutes from my house and bought a 1974 maverick brand new with a 302 automatic and sport mirrors, STILL RUNS!!!. Said he used it as a daily driver for about 10 years and then had it sit in his yard ever since. A ww2 veteran and a maverick owner, what a combination, the storys he told me about war and the maverick, just a nice guy in general. One thing that really shocked me is that he also drag raced a 72 nova. Cant believe hes gone.... will post more pics later (on my phone)
Sorry to hear, may he rest in peace. You were lucky to know him and more so that he shares his war stories with you. I have known several WWII vets and few were willing/able to talk about what they did and saw. I hate the word because in this age of entitlement it is way over used but out military personnel, past, present and future deserve our respect and nothing less.
yeh, i wish but he already told his son he could have it, now it will rust away As for the war stories, most of the time it was getting drunk and hitting on forgien chicks
Sorry to hear about your friend, I had a WW2 friend that was in pearl and always told stories about being wounded on the USS Arizona and having shrapnal in his leg, When he died a few years ago he was creamated and behold they gave his son the chunk of shrapnal..
sorry to hear about Mr. H just cherrish the stories he told you.i had a very old man on my paper route when i was a kid and he always talked about his son who died during wwII i never put two and two together until one day he showed me his sons purple heart his name was roger young he was a hero in wwII.
Sad to hear. I hope myself and everyone I know lasts to 95 though. I've had a few good men tell me some war stories over the years. Its sad the ww2 vets will all be gone soon. We all should never forget them and all vets. My grandfather(British) drove a tank transport among other large transports through Italy during ww2. My grandmother was in the WAF in Britain and did pre-flight inspections on the warplanes before flight. They also used female pilots in the WAF(womens air force) to fly the planes place to place in Britain for delivery. Many dont know that fact. Have very few pics of them during the war as they both didnt save much since it was a bad time. I remember seeing a pic of my grandma standing with a clip board in uniform in front of a Spitfire. I havent seen it since I was a kid and it seems to have vanished. I really hope it turns up one day.
Justin, sorry you lost a friend there. Sounds like he was a mentor to you and a fun guy. To anyone that makes it to be 95, I say "nice job". We lost my buddy's dad, Nick, last year .... he was a career man in the Air Force and worked as flight crew during WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam. Flew on some huge planes, and was stationed in several places around the globe. My friend, Rob, was born in England while Nick was stationed there. At the age of 10, they went to see races at Riverside,CA because they were living there at the time. Settled in Florida finally after being stationed here at MacDill AFB in Tampa, and retired here. Nick and his wife had 5 kids, I think 9 grandkids, and were into double-digits in great-grandkids. He always treated Rob's friends (and there are a bunch of us) like we were family too, even though Rob and I met in our late 20s. Awesome guy! He had a full military memorial service as a send-off. Nice job, Nick!
Sorry to here about your friend. It sounds like he had a long and interesting life and you have good memories the rest of your life.
Sad to hear that another WWII Vet is gone, cool he was a Maverick owner. My own Grandfather was a WWII Vet also, stormed the beaches on June 6th, 1944. He was my hero and i miss he greatly. Remember and respect all the Veterans, we owe then thanks for our freedoms.
