now i have a really loud whine almost like a supercharger...anyway to quiet this down? is there something worng? is it a break in period? idk never replaced a starter before. 72 maverick 200 I6
Stick or auto? Not sure on the 6's,but the 302 starters have a different snout on the starter, depending on if it's for a stick or auto trans.Maybe the same goes for the 6's?
The snout (or cone)is the front section of the starter that goes into the trans.Do You still have Your old starter.or used as a core?If You have it check the length of the orig.snout against the new one.
would the snout make a difference just while starting though...they looked the same. when i replaced my flexplate, and put my starter back in it did the same thing. a friend of mine adjusted it somehow and it stopped making the noise. idk what he did...lol
If it's a different length it could.Did You make sure the starter bolts are nice and snug?If there loose, even the slightest bit,it could also cause Your problem
yes they do...and no mine doesn't...lol i noticed when i replaced my flexplate...but i figured since it was fine after whatever my friend did it would be fine...i'm guessin i need a plate...or atleast a shim. can i even get one for my car? the shim above wont fit my application.
if i got a motor plate could i just cut the section out for the starter? i dont wanna have to pull my tranny out again
The motor plate also keeps the transmission input shaft from bottoming out on the crankshaft. You need the motor plate IF it had one originally.
