I ordered some from a.a. parts today and was wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect? its going to cost me 60 bucks!!!! Apariently the headers are the 4inch bolt pattern (or something like that because the header colectors i have now are too small) Well i guess ill really be herd now
Purple hornies do that... If they will fit, why not? All you need to do is make sure they are dumping somewhere legal, usually behind the rear seam of the rear most door.
You can expect them to bottom out. I have never had any luck connecting a muffler directly to a header collector on a street driven car. Not a lot of clearance mounted that way. On the other hand they will be obnoxiously loud and you will probably love them. Have fun.
I had purple hornies on mine when i bought the car. they sound mean but as previously stated.....LOUD. I went to flowmasters car runs better with more back pressure anyways and i didn't lose performance. ran rich with just header mufflers. no back pressure at all. but if your looking for loud then header mufflers are the way to go!
i had the same setup on a '71 of mine for awhile. i had a 3" collector feeding straight into a 2.5" 48in. cherry bomb glasspack. i thought it sounded pretty good but it will bottom out easily, and u still wanna support them so that the headers dont have to support the weight of them. no inspections in KY
Can you say ear plugs? They will be VERY loud, and at certain speeds, will drone so bad you won't be able to hear anything else. The exhaust needs to cool a little before it hits a muffler for the muffler to have any effect. It will sound much better if you run pipe to the rear seat area, then put the mufflers on the end of the pipe with turn downs or outs. That's the way mine is, and it still has a drone at 30-35 MPH, but nothing like the header muffs will have. I bought the Hedman collectors that have the kind of "S" bend in them, and a stick [10 foot] of 2.25 exhaust tubing. With the bends in the collectors, you can cut them off to run paralelle to the rear, then put the muffs on, and use the factory hanger bolt to hang one side, and drill a hole and bolt the other side up. I plan on over the axle pipes, dumping behind the tires, for mine, if I ever get back to making any money.
I hung mine from the rear seat belt bolt holes. Don't have a back seat, so don't need those seatbelts.
