Well hello every one. My name is Mike. I am the proud owner of a Tri color 1970 Ford Maverick! (and buy tri i mean Left front and rear are red primer, Dark green graber hood, and the rest is white) This site seems to have a lot of nice helpful people on board, and i look forward to talking w/ all of you. the mav is stock except for the floor shifter and the steering wheel. the guy i got it from has all of the stuff to convert the front to (i think) 5 on 5.5 lug disk breaks. and i think I've found an 8inch rear end w/ 5 on 5.5 lugs as well. now, if i miss speak, or just sound like in idiot.. Please let me know. I'm very new to this kind of thing. but i like to know what I'm about. other than that. i (just like every other 24 year old) have an inherent desire to make this thing look good and go like hell! so i will be asking a lot of questions. but in return i will post what i do w/ pics as we go. -Mike/Crew oh yea, i was a UH-60 Crew Chief in the army for a time. and was referred to as a "Crewdog" my handle has NOTHING to do w/ gangs or any other such silliness.
from Northeast Pennsylvania The 8 inch rear's bolt pattern is 5 x 4.5 and that will match the disc brake set up. Don't worry about all that mismatched paint. It all looks good again once you strip the whole car down to bare metal. When I got my 70, it was brush painted flat black and trimmed with parking lot line yellow paint.
Hello Mike, Welcome to the board from the Capital of the Midwest "The Windy City". Lot's of gud folks here and some helpful info for those w/ our cars. Happy New Year.
Welcome to the board from New Mexico. I assume Montana is like New Mexico, not much population and as a result, not a lot of Mavericks or even Ford parts. The nice thing about New Mexico, if you do find a Mav, sometimes the body is pretty rust free. As the other person said, the 5 lugs front and rears are on a 4-1/2" bolt circle. Not real hard to find parts to change over to five lug from four lug. You may be better off to get front disc brakes off a later Maverick or a Ganada if it's going to be a driver. Any 5 lug Mav rear (and some others in cluding Ganada and 57-59 ford 9" rear end) will swap over easly, some have good gear ratios. The 70's, if it's an early one (called 69-1/2), also have some other unique issues, smaller trans tunnel, falcon type front suspension and a few other things. But, the early Mavs are lighter so that can be a plus if you are looking to go fast. You can get many of your questions answered by searching the fourms for information. I am sure many of the questions you are going to have will have already been asked...an answered in the past. At least that is how I found out much of what I needed for my early 70 Mavericks. Good luck, you found the right place. Happy New Year, Farmall
