This past Wednesday my little sister (16) wrecked her '95 T-Bird. She was on a gravel road, and around here after they grade the roads, it becomes what we refer to as a "Wash-board Road". She was driving along, and she said suddenly she could not steer the car. It went straight into a deep ditch, and the angle that she hit, threw the car into a roll...then another roll.....and then another roll......When the dust settled, she actually had to turn the car off. She opened the door, stepped out, and collapsed. From the ground, the cell phone would not pick-up reception. She finally pulled her way up and propped against the car and began trying to make phone calls. She said her hands were shaking so hard that it took several tries to get the numbers right. She could not reach mom or dad, so she called her boyfriend's house which was near by. Then she called me. I was 200 miles away and in a dually deisel, so rushing right over was not an option. She was crying but said that she was okay, just hurting and bleeding. I got her boyfriend's mom on the phone, and they stayed with her until help got there. She is okay, but pretty bruised and cut up. After looking at the car, I and everyone else say she is lucky to be alive. The only piece of glass that did not break, was the driver's door. The roof caved in, both bumpers came off, and every body panel on the car is completly crushed. The air bags did not fire. I guess the moral of my story is please tell everyone that you care about that you love them. They can be gone in a mere instant. I came close to losing my baby sister. It has caused me to stop and re-consider how I live, and I am so thankful that, as bad as it was, it wasn't any worse. Please drive carefully if you care for someone, let them know! Sorry it was so long, but I just had to share.

P.S.- I HIGHLY recommend '95 T-Birds for their durability and ability to protect the driver. The car saved her life. And after rolling three times was still running. (4.6 liter) When we were about to tow the car, it would actually crank!!! (wouldn't run long, but still!!!!)

Take care everyone, and God Bless all of you!

Preston, thank god she is ok! You are 100% right. Things like this are life changing events. It really puts things into perspective on what is important. Also it makes you take time for things that maybe you would never have done before. I was nearly taken out in 1997, for some reason I lived. Not a day goes by that I dont thank the man upstairs. Heck, I even say thanks on monday morning!!

Wow, Preston. Sorry to hear the news but glad to hear the results.

Growing up in Louisiana, I'm too familiar with the washboards. They threw me into the ditch in my '63 Merc. It wasn't quite as spectacular landing though. It knocked the ball-joint loose, the tire went horizontal on me and I had no choice but to ride it out to the ditch.

I drive a '96 Tbird - kinda makes me wonder about the airbags though. Does it take a head-on or rear-end collision before they deploy or something?

    Anyway, glad she's okay.

    Rick

Good to hear your sis is ok. A friend of mine rolled his Ford 250, 3 times a few months ago. High winds and towing a large trailer.(I was going to go with him but decieded not to at the last moment). You just never know where or when as accident will happen. Here's a pic of his truck.

 . Sorry to hear about your sister's accident, but I'm sure glad she is going to be OK. Things like that are a real eye opener and can really put things in perspective. I'm glad to say I have never been in a wreck like that, but I know others who have and it certainly changed the way they look at things. Your absolutely right; if you care about someone, take the time to tell them so. With the Memorial Holiday about to begin, let's all be carefull on the roads out there.

Like everyone else said thank God she is alright. A few weeks after I got my license I was headed down a street that was being widened. Being an unexperienced driver when I hit the gravel my tires spun and I began to go into a ditch and over corrected and in doing so sent my car into a spin which ended throwing me into a fence. After the dust settled and I climbed out my driver's side window I noticed that I had gone through a space that had telephone poles on either side. While that was scary it was more scary when a bystander told me that had my car gone the other direction I would have gone head-on into two semi-trucks. We should all thank God for small miracles. As soon as she is able get her driving again, it's like falling off a horse, you gotta get back on asap. Give her a hug and tell her how much you love here. That goes for everyone here.

Glad to hear all is well. Family is the most important thing in life. Both my daughters were in accidents. The oldest rolled her Escort on its side. Her and my grandson were strapped in so no injuries other than scratching up the car. The part that still gives me chills is the side that was grinding on the pavement was the gas filler side. If any gas had spilled out and ignited, they never would have gotten out in time. Years later my youngest, in the same car, got T boned in an intersection. This time the car was totaled. Luckily, just some stitches was the worst of it. I hate those frantic phone calls. Puts about 5 years on you real quick. I myself was run over by a truck in 91, head to toe. As the tire was rolling over my head, I was honestly thinking, this is the end. So I do look as every day as a great day no matter how bad the day is going.
