I had considered do'en a halo but the car shows ( years off ) only allow 3 mods to a car and than your out of orig. class status. Priorities may put the halo out if it is not a '72 option I think that started in '73. Lots to learn. We are go'en to the annual Function in Junction tomoorrow its the bigger show in Oregon to look and learn more about it. Hope to c a Comet or Mav. Thanks again folks, Too too much fun. Drove into town with it tonight and sure looked damned good in front of the store...
Just got off the phone with a local performance machinist. Says he does 250 6's for sprint car folks. He says he throws a lot of sh*t on the floor sweeps it up and comes up with motor that pushes 230 + but uses Cev valve. Also doesn't run a lot of money ( beer budget hp) I'll keep u all posted, but its go'en to take awhile ( hp = time + $$$$ )
I must admit that my friend that goes 11.54 in his six isn't a Ford its a Slant six in a 68 Barracuda. It is purely a race car, so its a little lighter that a street car and it has 4.56 gears. He also used a 125hp shot of nitrous. The 11.54 time is his best time in that car but it was also done with the smallest motor...a 170 inch slant six not a 225. Doug is a great bargen hunter and can do most of work himself. Like head porting. He also has a family so he dosnt have alot of money to spend. His race car cost him $3000! I was there the day that he pulled a 11.54 he was racing a new Corvette after the race the guy comes over to see what beat him. He was thinking big block...you should have seen the look on his face when he saw the slant six sitting there. We seriously thought he was going to kill himself he was that depressed, he turned pail like he was going to get sick. The moment was priceless!! His 170 was built with stock rods, crank and used Vega 4cyl cast pistons(the week link) the motor has been balanced and has a home ported head on it and a 4bbl carb. The Vega pistons dont sit down in the bore .3" like stockers. I think the compression ratio is 12.5 to 1 The other piston that he used is from a 2.2L turbo. There is nothing exotic about his sixes and I think the Vega pistons were about $12 each. The only stumbling block with the ford is the head and that is easily solved with an Ausi head. The ford six is super strong It has 7 main bearings (V8's have 5) The crank is forged (like you are going to get a forged crank in your stock 302 or 351) and the rods were forged until about 1978 or 1979. Replace the cast pistons with good light forged slugs.
CometGT ... Nice car ... I like the all white combo ... too bad about the speaker hack in the back seat ...
Thanks, Wrestling with keep'en the orig. color scheme, with the $ it take for a look good I'm putt'en off worring about it till the suspension drivetrain etc are taken care of. drove to a local show parked blocks away.....still got conversation. There was 1 mav in the show nicely done.
