ive got sheet metal and an open mount in mine, and I think it looks good. But if you wanted to go the box route, dont waste your time with a cheap one. for $175, "Bitchin Products" makes an optima specific battery box that looks sweet. MNTony posted about using it two years ago. Check it out:http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=40044
Thanks, and I didnt, I have a pair of 6x9s back there, I was waiting to hear from someone who knows the answer though i suspect you would need to cover the holes or make some wood boxes covered with sheetmetal inside the trunk ( which if designed properly should make the speakers sound better anyway)
The package tray can have holes for the speakers. I think most tech guys would agree that the speakers will act like a firewall equal to the metal. Honestly, they don't check that very carefully, but you want to be safe using common sense. The purpose of the firewall is to keep fire from the driver's compartment, just like the front firewall. The battery or fuel could catch on fire in the front or back of car and needs to be protected from the driver.
Industrial metal supply was amazing!! Omg they have everything metal, sweeeeeet! I got 2 sheets of aluminum, one was 0.04" and the other 0.032". Got a 4'x2' and a 4'x1' which totalled $16. So the way they charge you is by the pound and mine was like 5lbs total. Anyway, gonna see when I can install it. Gotta do it before january 7th since that's when I'm going to the track. I'll see what I can do about the speaker tray. Avoiding fire is a good thing.
Mo, I have the package tray piece on my car. You can use it as a template if you want. Wich track are you going to?
