Wondering if I can find a backing plate for the disc brakes. I was wondering if I can convert it to disc brake with out changing the spindle. I found the rotors, hubs & Calipers on rock auto for under 150.00 per side.
the rotors are 10.72" And I only find bearings in one size so I was wondering if this would work. Since disc brakes were an option in 1973 and Ford tends to use the same parts for years & YEARS: even after recalls Just kind of wondering if any had thought about this or better yet... tried it?

No way around changing the spindle. It's part of the caliper slide and mounting.

Ok so I need the disc brake spindle that has the backing plate, as far rotors, calipers & hoses I would rather replace them.
As far as finding a granada or Monarch in this part of the country it is virtually impossible..(Most everything over 10 yrs old goes to the scrap yard or crushers) So now I guess that I Need to find out about getting a new spindle.
Kind of surprised to get the reply since it is getting rather later back in your part of the country... and where is Marietta?

You can find spindles on ebay or on here in the classifieds. Disk spindles from Mav/comet 74, 75-77, granada 75-80 will work. I think the 74 is a little smaller setup based of mustang II brakes.

It was a few minutes till 10 for me. I was sleepy but it wasn't my bed time yet :D
Marietta, OK is on the TX OK border, Central... on I35.
Also note that when doing the swap, the center (hub) size is going to change. Thought you should know so you can think about your wheels.

So if they are all the same, he can bolt up 75-77 calipers and get 11" rotors, can't he?

What I was getting at, is they are all the same rotors, 74-77, 11.03". 74 didn't have Mustang II brakes, and you need the disc brake spindle.:)
