If you dont want a box, but still want electronic ignition I always liked the Mallory Unilite distrubtors. Just wire it to your coil and your done.
ok yes you can get rid of that box. you can pull out all of its unnessary wireing. there are tech articals and posts on this site that have the duraspark wireing and there are lots of them on the internet itself if you google search. the one thing you need to be carefull of is the coil. you need to figure out if you coil needs a external coil resistor or has an internal restistor.
i got ya but its a MSD PN8352 distributer w the built in module..so as i am understanding it i can unplug the box and wire the ground and hot to the coil and the ignition from the positive side of the coil and move on?
let me say that agaig this MSD distributer is drop in readu to run..it has three wires on it red orange and black..the red goes to the pos side of the coil the orange goes to the neg side of the coil and the black is the ground..so all we have to do is unplug the box and find the wire that is switched (ignition wire) and wire it to the pos side of the coil..it should start and run..do you agree?.and by leaving the rest of the box unplugged it should not affect thie vehicle running ...correct? thanks for the responses..i have been pulling my hair out with this project, but want the boy to be able to work on his own vehicle...maybe he will take care of it..if not it will be MINE
Joe Dirt , Maverick 75, Bryant, Brainsboy and Facelessnumber...thank you for the help and the answers..it is always nice to see something from another point of veiw..especially when you know that they all share the Maverick passion and want to see these cars on the road.....i appreciate the help, thanks brothers...matt
it should run. the only thing to watch out for is if your coil will work with 12 volts or if it needs the voltage to be droped with a ballast resistor or resistor wire( what ford used on the non duraspark harness). if it needs the resistor then you need to see if the msd needs 12 volts or can run with the resistor.
This is really a great post because I wasnt aware that a powered self contained ignition distributor would work as a trigger for a duraspark box without burning it out.
huhh the harness out of the 73 was hooked up directly to the coil from the ignition switched wire...should be the same if i just find a switched wire..what do you think?
