All modifications are welcomed, no matter how small.

Also looking to hear what was a mod that you regret doing. Thanks

Front discs was the absolute best I ever did. I drove my car like 29,000 miles with 4 wheel drums, and there were some pretty hair raising moments there, and I was only getting like 6-8,000 miles out of front shoes before they wore down to the rivets. The discs always stop straight and true, stop a hell of a lot faster, and the pads last 5 times as long.

i agree with Jamie. front disc brakes are at the top of my list.... and the rest of my list would look something like this.. :
    1. front disc brakes
    2. T5 5sp trans swap
    3. roller engine
    4. mini starter
    5. serp belt setup
    6. 3G alt upgrade

and my list will probably change a little after i get my rear disc brakes on, and my gear/posi installed

Best was the small bumper swap, the car looks totally different. Worst was painting the sport lamps white...they are now chrome. To the engine best was the 3g alt, and worse was sticking with the 2bbl for so long, it felt like a new beast with the holley 4160.

Your question is "Single best mod"...but you say "all mods"
Do you want...one mod or all mods?

Single mod or all mods. Whatever floats your boat.

I definitely agree, Disk Brakes is the BEST upgrade to do on the early cars!

Let's face it, morons are quite abundant on the roads and being able to stop quick and straight just might be the difference between getting in a wreck and avoiding it.

BOTH of my Comets will be getting the brake conversion for that reason alone.

Replaced the standard rear view mirror with a Day/Night mirror, Dura Spark ignition, disc brakes, small rear bumper. Things on the to-do list: Headlight relays, intermittent wipers, small front bumper, relocate the fuse panel.

I could have a big list here, but in the spirit of the thread's perceived original intent, I think the "single best mod" I've done would be air conditioning. The front disc swap was already done when I got the car or I might have said that instead. The rear disc swap was pretty nice, as were a few other mods, but AC wins. I've done several performance and appearance related things, but most of my modding has been focused on improving the car's ability to serve as a daily driver, so that one was huge.

My favorite mod would probably have to go to the exhaust. When I bought it, it had some old race mufflers that dumped under the floorboard and if I had driven it like that on the street I'm sure I would have gotten a ticket. I replaced that setup with dual 2.5" Flow 40's exiting out the back and I just love the sound. One of my favorite parts of any hot rod is the exhaust sound. My new favorite will probably be the manual tranny once I get it in here in the next couple of weeks.

    My Top 5 list

    1) Bigger motor
    2) Disc brakes (done within a month of #1 ... car was scary before, but got to be super-scary after)
    3) Pertonix ignition
    4) Replace factory AM radio with a nice stereo. ( had to add a big amp after #1 ... couldn't hear it at all at 80 mph ... :D ... full volume ... nothin' but motor running on carb secondaries ... )
    5) Bucket seats

So far the best mod I have done was switching from a rusty 74 grabber, to a rust free 71 grabber.
