My '72 GT has the orig. 250 six. I trying to decide if I want to build the six to keep the car orig. or do a 302 swap. Has anybody built a six and how many pony's did you get? Happy with performance?

are you just wanting more power or are you wanting to kick but on the V8 guys? If you`r wanting to kick V8 butt you`ll need a turbo N2O or a blower I`m gonna go with a turbo on my 250 , there isn`t much of a chance of getting over 250 hp with a 250 I6 with out a power adder n2o ect.

If you realy want to do the I6 thing go to www.fordsix.com and for the parts www.cliffordperformance.com www.fordsixparts.com

I have never seen a Comet GT with a 6 cyl. Although it was the standard engine for all CoMavs, I've actually never seen one in a GT. 6 cylinders are neat, but the same money in a 302 will get you so much more. Just depends on what you want.

I'll never understand why some people want to waste time & money on a I-6 in one of these cars, other than the desire to keep the car all-original, there's really no point to it..

    Elliot;

First of all, the fuel ecconomy of an I-6 is NOT all that much better than a V-8. Second; There's a reason that you see V-8s at strip or car shows, because they deliver the BEST performance...PERIOD.

People have their own individual reasons for why they do things, but personally, I don't have my Maverick for the purpose of "being different". I have it because it's a damn good car and I like the way it looks. You can build a I-6 to be "different", or you can build a V-8 because it makes the most sense. The choice is yours. I'm not bad-mouthing anyone, just stating my opinion (which happens to be a strong one)...

I don't know, the biggest complaint I hear from people at the local car shows is that so much of what you see there is the same, year after year, that it gets boring...nothing but Fairlanes, Impalas and Mustangs, all with V-8's...to the extent that they stop going. As it's been mentioned before, one of the definitions of being a "maverick" is to be different. So for me, I'll be keeping my I-6.

There are plenty of ways to be "different"...A low performance engine in your car doesn't have to be one of them...

Aussie 250 head, single turbo, and you can use a GN fuel injection harness (modified) and your own intake/throttle body design. I saw that somewhere on the 'net once before, but darned if I can find the link now. Supposedly it makes somewhere around 400 HP....which is incredible for a inline 6....and if memory serves me right, it was below 5000 RPM. If I can find the link, i'll post it.

T.L. I didn`t get get on this forum to get into fights , its true you can get more power out of a 302 but you can get more out of a 351 but more power out of a 390 but more power out of a 429 but more power out of a ... see my point it all comes down to what you want not what some one else tels you what is cool or what sucks . To me its more fun getting power out of a I6 insted of looking through my summit or jegs catalog and bolting on 500 hp

Holy cow, Thanks all ! The links are great info.

I checked the vin and it came with the 250.
There is something to be said about a show full of small blocks. I'l bet a nice six would get some eyeballen.

    Heres a plan:

go with a 200 head (Anybody know what the best year for a 200 head is? )
    262 pistons ???
    260 cam
    350 holly
    split headers 2 1/2"
upgrade the brakes and go with a 9" rear.

I'd be happy with 1 pony per cube. Not interested in taken on V8's all day just want to be a little froggy and keep it orig.

Found this GT the country. Original owner, couldn't drive anymore it had sat for some years, drove it away for $300.00. In solid shape but needs gone through.

Thanks again. I'll post pitcures later after i get the green stuff thats growing wash off.

2 or 2 1/4 will be better for the dual exhaust , a 200/250 1979 - 1983 head is the best after you mill it ~ .060 or more or you can mill it ~.030 and run tempo pistons but I forgot wich ones but the people at ford six will know
