I just copied the catalog listing. Probably gotta go to oreilly web site if you wanna use the links. Thought the number of parts listed was surprising.
I've beem fighting a vibration problem in my 75 for over a year, when I had the engine rebuilt the rebuilder showed me the orignal timing fiber sprocket which was just about discentegrated and dried up,cracked harmonic balancer, problem solved! Oh hell no! The car vibrated worse than ever.so to make a long story short the rebuilder installed the wrong crankshaft [87 5.0] rods, pistons, replacement crank, flexplate, and harmonic balancer are out being balanced, I've got my fingers crossed!!
With all this confusion over the part number for a combination joint, you can go on Summit Racing's site and look em up and verify the dimensions there for all the various U joints. There are several "combination" U joints out there all you need is the dimensions you're looking for and do a little research to find what you want. I've got another source, being as I'm a regular customer at several parts houses here, they'll all freely let me go back in the stock shelves and find what I want. Been doing this for 30 years now with 3-4 parts houses I frequent. Once you've earned the employees and manager's trust, you're good to go.
I like and want to buy from Summit, but when I can go to a store and figure it out, why risk getting something incorrect and having it sent to me... and wait for it at that? I like doing like you and going to the parts house and getting it off of the shelf, no better way.
Summit and other online catalog companies have their place, especially when what you want cannot be found locally. If I can find it locally, I do so. The local speed shop here has NEVER stocked stuff, he orders 95% of what his clientell wants. That's been the reason I haven't bought from him for the last 20 years. My credit card works just like his. And the stuff comes right to my door.
Sometimes...JUST sometimes, my local speed shop has ordered and on stock what I want from Summit/JEGS. So I get it at about the same price (shipping etc. taken into account). Most of the time I have to do the research myself to make sure the part(s) are correct and order them myself, and pay the ten bucks shipping. It is a game of hit and miss...
hI Here are some things to try .First remove the d shaft and run the eng. second put the d shaft back on and put a muffler clamp on the d shaft and drive the car then rotate the shaft a bit and drive to see if the prob. changes keep doing that until you go 180 around the shaft. if nothing works replace the press.plate and disk. good luck let me know how you make out. Summit is my local store... ...meeting Earl and Jeff there at 9:00AM this morning... from there we're going to Pull-A-Part then to Baby Janes... then back to Summit... ...LMS... figuring it out...and delivery to my truck...
Fixed it!!! The new rear u-joint fixed the problem. Now all I hear and feel is ENGINE!!! But now engine is broke... Nothing I won't have fixed before dark, but it was still pretty serious, and now I know why I felt like I was running on 7 cylinders. Need to go dyno it again after I get all 8 running again.
