Some may remember this but I had my distributor "tuned" by a dyno shop in San Diego and even though I can't complain because I got a lot more power than when I drove in there, the think was just not acting right.

The past few days it was advancing which we thought was from the grears slipping. Bryant gave me his old mallory dist to put in which did a great job but apparently had a little glitch because it would turn off at random. Also, it didn't have a vacuum advance. Interestingly, it needed a little tap from a hammer to seat well which thank god Bryant figured out. But in the end I ended up going to Kragen and getting a rebuilt one for $50 which dropped in pretty easily. We still had a little detonation so we turned down the vacuum advance module (small allen wrench, and you turn counterclockwise to turn down the advance). After the tuning, runs like a charm.

I am not ready to talk about the electric fan which is making noise and if I start up on my murder allegations of the radiator everyone is gonna think I'm cookoo so I'll leave that be for now.

We found a good spot for the MSD box to mount, looks like it's gonna be the trunk. Gotta run the wires to the front. Apparently gotta use 16 gauge wire to run extension and gotta run the pick up wires seperate from the other wires. So hopefully we'll do that next week.

Why dont you save all the hassle of running wires and just put the engine in the trunk too? :rofl2:

Glad to see you fixed the distributor problem :Handshake

As it is, when I even put my tiny little tool box in the trunk I get my tires scraped on the fender lips. I'm not sure how heavy my engine is but I foresee a problem. I'll talk to Bryant, I'm sure we can make it fit! :)

being you have a...low compression motor...you could mount the MSD on your tool box/work bench and get the same results...:yup:

    LOL!
I was actually thinking of widening the spark plug gaps, we're thinking 1" gap should give me a hefty spark. For $400 that I paid for that thing the spark better travel further than 0.050"!!!!

    I've had a few

May not even need spark plugs anymore. Just cram the wires into the holes and put plenty of duct tape over them! Let it arc straight to the top of the piston!

It's almost unfathomable that this and that are the same engine bay.

Sorry but that seems like too much wireing to get it back there. More chances for trouble.
I can't tell, is the PCV at the back of the pass side valve cover?

I think buying the whole assembly new as frank suggested would be cheaper in the long run and comes with a warranty so at least you can keep taking them back and getting new ones for free. especially if they are only going to last a month each... :Handshake

I don't know what a PCV is.
I have this rubber thing coming out of the back of the pass valve cover that I believe serves only the purpose of leaking oil onto the rest of my engine. It was an upgrade I believe ordered directly from the factory, supposedly it helps lubricate the suspension pieces on the passenger side.

YEP ! ! ! I'd mount it lots closer to engine! MSD use to have, (haven't called for sometime) a great tech line. Run that by them an see what they say. Make sure you use the rubber mounts, seen lots of them under hood an NO problems or you could mount inside firewall! Good Luck !
