Hello, My name is John and I'm a new member to the Maverick Forum. Found it through a google search. My late younger brother had a 1976 Maverick that has been sitting in my parent's barn for the past 16 years on jack stands. They gave me the title a few years ago and said it could stay until I had storage space. He passed a 2 months after our son was born. Our son is 14 and has been asking about it for the past year...we brought it home last month and have started working on it. It's red, 2-door, black interior, 250 straight six, automatic, with Cragar wheels and has just a few rust spots. Overall it is in good shape. After some initial cleaning, and with the help of a little starter fluid, it wanted to fire. The gas tank hadn't been drained years ago and the fuel was nasty. The sending unit is shot and I've been looking for a new one. That's the first thing we need to replace. So, any help finding a source for 1976 fuel sending unit would be greatly appreciated. Attached two pictures: One from storage and one at home. Thanks, John
Welcome from a retired FF...LOL Looks like he's going to have a pretty nice ride. Outstanding project for you two to work on. I'm very certain pointers on the sending unit will be pouring in before lunch Good luck,
Where are you at in Indiana? Haven't seen Starfire tires in years. They used to be standard operating equipment around here back in the day.
Welcome aboard! Auto Krafters sells a unit for the 71-74 Mavericks and I have no idea if it would even halfway work for you. I have never tried it. http://www.autokrafters.com/v4/go.gnf Do a search (search box above) on here because this subject does come up quite often and you can read several threads related to this. I'm sure there are a few good used ones out there too if the right person sees this. Might be a good idea to place a parts wanted ad too.
Welcome to the board. Nice looking car for you and your son to work on. Make new memories together and keep your brothers dream going.
Awesome car, can't wait to see it fixed up. I came across this site that rebuilds the sending units and contacted them. I was told it would cost in-between $75 - $150, depending on what needed to be done. It's too bad someone doesn't re-pop them for the later model Mavericks, but rebuilding them is an option..... http://www.tristarrradiator.com/
