lol yea i kno. im so use to going slow, its gonna be scary to go fast. :evilsmile my roller 302 is gonna have a few bigger better parts, 24lb injectors and im debating to run a shot. i was thinkin 75 for good measure, since my car is a 75 lol ill do a built tranny with a stall, thinkin 2400 or 2200. 9in with 3.55's thats my dream
run the shot with a b-303 or e-303 cam. either cam is great for some street driving w/o sacraficing driveability. either converter would work out good for you on the street, the Saturday Night Special comes to mind. and for what you're wanting, your 8" will hold up just fine unless you just wanna drop in a 9" for the hell of it (or have some bigger plans in the future)
my motor comes with b cam already. i know my 8inch will be fine, if i keep it im gonna put in a mini spool. but if i can flash a smile n trick a friend or bf into getting me one then ill do the 9inch, because i know this is just the start. i will go bigger. maybe 347 in the future
i dont blaim ya, if u find the 9 for a good deal then go for it but the good thing is that the 8" will do anything u want it to do (for now anyways, lol) mini-spools are fun too, just be careful if u get caught in the rain..
well good and bad is thing the valley is facing a drought right now so im not to worried about rain lol
I wouldn't run a mini spool on a everyday street car...weekend cruiser I might. Don't under estimate the strength of an 8" unless you're running sticky mickeys and drag racing with 400 horses. The weakest link will be street tires not hooking.
The 8.8 swap isn't really for strength so much as it's a cheaper way to get Trac-Lock and a good gear ratio.
i undrstood, the 8.8 was the best of both worlds, wasnt heavy nor power stealing at 9inch, but isnt weak like an 8inch. so who knows? i guess its personal preference.
Well, it's theoretically no weaker then the 8 inch, maybe stronger, and it's not as heavy as the 9, but none of those three are known for being weak.
I guess this is a good place to ask it...I was talking to someone about converting to a 9", and possibly doing it before the 302 swap if I found an "offer I cant refuse"...the guy said converting to a 9" will actually hurt the performance of the car as it sits because the gears are much heavier...true, or false?
True. The 9 inch adds more unsprung weight to the car therefore it will hurt the performance if you install a 9 inch with the 6 cyl or a basic stock 302. But is you are looking to upgrade in the near future and you found the 9 inch and had the time to put it in while the car still has th e 6 cyl in it. Why not? Those 6 cyl aren't exactly know for being speed demons anyway. I personally would not go to a 9 inch rear unless I was pushing over 400 HP to the rear wheels, doing a lot of racing and running stick tires. i put a Lock Right locker in my 8 inch rear a couple years ago, it is a 4 speed manual and I bang the hell out of it when I drive it and when I take it to the track occasionally I do NOT baby it at all and I have never even thought twice about it being an 8 inch. I was specifically told that I should NOT try running sticky tires with the Locker and an 8 inch, even with my mild 302 I was told that a set of stick slicks and that locker would be a sure fire way to break something in the rear. But I was also told that a decent set of drag radials should be OK
My car has a 9 inch in it, but a buddy of mine ran an 8 inch in a 66 mustang and it never broke using it for street and strip use until he broke an axle shaft launching on slicks when the car was running high elevens in the quarter.
