My maverick will sometimes make a rubbing sound that is metal to metal. It is coming from the flexplate torque converter area. The instructor agrees with me that this is the problem. I am going to put it on the lift when it is available and check the dust cover bolts, tq bolts and starter bolts to make sure they are tight and not to long causing them to rub the flexplate. Does anyone else have any ideas on what to check. I really don't want to take the tranny out for a 4th time
It's a new flexplate so I hope it isn't that rubbing. I am hoping it is a bolt that is to long but with my luck it can't be that easy. lol
i was thinking that the flex plate was cracked, but then you posted that it is new. check for how much your crank can move front to back in the motor. this can be why the sound isnt constant if the crank is walking foward and back.
drain plug on converter not lined up with the hole on the flex plate. I did this myself and it makes a lot of noise.
Is there a slot in the flexplate for the drain plug. I checked all the tq bolts and there tight. I also checked the balance weights and can't see how they rub. Sometimes it will be quiet and sometimes it gets loud. I am probaly going to pull the tranny out after thanksgiving to check everything.
did the check the crank end play yet? try moving the balancer and flex plate forward and back. there should be no perciveable movement.
I just checked and the crank is not wandering. When I first cranked it you couldn't here nothing ut it started again when I opened it up a little
We just pulled a 5.0 out of a Mustang yesterday and there's evidence of the flywheel rubbing on the block plate. It was pretty bad actually. It wasn't making any noise, but it was definitely hitting at some point. It was near the top of the flexplate/block plate. No way to see it there without pulling the tranny if that's where it's hitting
