Hello fella's, Yesterday I became the proud new owner of a 1970 Maverick, I just recently found and became a member of this fine website. I'm really excited to have a project car to piddle on,it's been a while. She's a one owner car, very complete,I don't know how solid the body is but it "appears" to be a very solid car. She's been parked for over 20 years but,we brought her home and gave her a good scrubbing and doggone if she don't look pretty good. I'd love to pro street it but, maybe a mini tub may be as far as I'll go. I've got a strong 408 stroked Windsor that will replace the six but It'll be a while before I get to that. I'll post up some pix soon as I'm able. Bossed
I promise I'll get some put up, maybe tomorrow. I'm so pleased, I took the seat out and pulled out the mat and sound deadening material and it was WET! I was worried the floor would be rusted through, but other than surface rust and one hole about the size of a quarter she's solid! If this car had been rescued a little earlier I dont think there'd be any rust at all in the floor. The rockers are rock solid, looking under the car, it really looks good. Now I've got to get in the trunk and see what I'll find. This is gonna be a fun project, and my nine year old son is having fun working on the Maverick. Bossed
Welcome to the board. Sounds like a nice find and that you have some good plans for it. If the floor is wet, the first place to look is the cowls ... second is the window seals.
Here are a few pictures of the Mav. The first picture is right after we unloaded it, then a few of it after it's first bath in over 20 years. The body on this car is almost laser straight. Bossed
Wow! she came out looking good. And it seems like a solid project. Try removing the carpet on the front and look for water related rust under the dashoard along the firewall all the way to the seat rails for cowl leakage on both passenger and driver sides. This cars had a poor cowl design that led to rot once they got clogged with the debris coming to them from the vents in front of the windshield. There are tons of help on this board and if you put the experience of some hardcore maverick enthusiasts and many members mechanical expertice to work, you will find that it is easy and fun to work on you project. Welcome again and enjoy!!
1970 mavericks are the best of all mavs and comets how can someone not drive a car that nice for 20 years that is just a shame good to see it go to a motivated owner brad
