I've used the RTV black and never had a problem from it... although there is two types of black, one is a gasket sealer and the other is a gasket maker... don't know the exact differance... small bead and thats it.
Gaskets have a purpose, that stuff does not replace a gasket. Use the black stuff, and only use it to lightly coat one side of most gaskets, just to hold them in place, or use gasket shellac.
Get the one piece ford oil pan gasket and you wont need to use the cork end pieces.Other wise...yes use em...
i was thinking about it... it aint that hard already did it 5 times. I am trying to get this aod from a guy in bowling green so i can make it worth my wild when i pull it out was also concidering going to a 200 6 so i can get 30 mpg instead of replacing gaskets and getting 13
I, for one, never use silicone RTV except at the corners of the intake and pan. My primary sealant is Loc-Tite 518. It is a gel type flange sealer that remains pliable and seals everything from threads to gaskets. A very light coat (.010") is all it takes and it helps the gaskets peal off clean in one piece when it is time to replace or rebuild.
