    Hey everyone,

just wondering where i might be able to find quarter panels, or trunk drop-offs for pretty cheap. i know auto krafters has them but they're like 160 a peice plus shipping, thats over 350 dollars, so i was needing something cheaper.

need to find something to fix the rust and bondo. so i can get my car painted.

thanks everyone. also i will be posting some pics of a cruise in here in roanoke. (not a ford only) but still very cool. it's called Fast Freddys. where everywhere from surrounding counties show off there cars for free.. it's a huge parking lot behind the restaraunt. i saw 3 other mavericks there last night. ok.

Unfortunately that is about the only game in town. Your only other option is to cut them out of another car and that is very time consumming, and thats even if you can find some in good enough shape. The trunk drops can be made cheaply from sheet stock.

hmmmmm.... i was afraid of that.

i do have another option i guess.....the guy at the body shop said he'd fix em for about 3 hundred. unfortunately he doesnt have the proper tools i'm afraid.

he doesnt have an english wheel or any major body tools...so i would assume he would bend the metal with a torch and body hammer. which worries me that later on the welds could break under stress. and there goes the paint job. by the way he quoted me 1300 dollars for rust and dent fix as well as brand new paint....he uses slickens paint, i've had good results with slickens. and i told him all new metal in place of rust...not rust converter and bondo. i guess i could just get some body shop to fix the trunk drop-offs and prime it and paint it myself. thanks.

Actually, a good metal man CAN make the repair patch panels for the quarters and the welds will not pop under stress. We made many of them with no problems. My husband made the repair panels for my 77' maverick out of 18 gage steel 6 years ago and they are not letting go.

    i know!!!!

well jean doll thats good news for me. i had anxiety over it.

yea dmhines i have seen 2 cars so far at a cruise in - a 70 mach 1 before and after pictures. and a 94 firebird. at our local cruise in. i know he's got some good experience with fiberglass. he actually quoted me 1330, with fixing all dents and ripples, etc. and trunk drop-offs. now thats without straightening my grabber hood. that'll cost extra. oh and the lower corners of both doors.

thats sand, prime, and paint.....probably going to go back with black. most likely. and clear coat. he really is cheap, thats why i had conflictions about it all. theres a well known restoration shop around here called kings restoration, they are nationally know since they do hotrods and choppers. you cant get in there for under 5 or 6 grand seems like. so i'm weighing my options. i have painted my car before just to get it one color for awhile, but it was only supposed to be temp. but that was 3 years ago!!!! i have a small gravity fed gun, but with 10 gallon air compressor. so i could do it again but.............

    Fast Freddies

well every saturday if it's nice outside, there is a huge turnout.
i'd say this past saturday brought in about 150 cars and 4 of them mavericks! (1 of them mine) but it's a blast and the actual restaraunt has awesome food.....if you can get in the door on a sat. night!!!!!

it's located on main street in salem, va. if it's nice next saturday i'm sure everyone and there brother will be there. you should come up, we'll have to meet up together. it starts around .....5 or 6 pm and last's sometimes up till 11pm or so. mostly ends around 8:30pm or so.

i believe there is a car show in salem too, that day so i'll check on that.
and are you talking about happy's flea market...it's kinda run-down now but lotta people still go to it. anyways talk to you later.

    hey thats cool!!!!

    (y) My car isnt show car quality either..... at least you can drive your car a good ways....since mine is still spitting up rust i just about make it to salem before it gets clogged up.:)bawling: ) lol. ah well wouldn't trade it for the world.

i'll be in a Black 1972 Maverick Grabber with American Racing chrome wheels.

the exact address is : lets see..... 832 W Main Street, Salem. Va. on I-81 coming north it's exit 140 i believe. go straight till you see w. main st, then take right and follow that....i'm sure you'll see cars so you'll know your in the right place and then look for the big crowd on the left!!!!! or you can take exit 137 go to stop light and make a left then fast freddys will be on right up aways.

Hey I always come up 220 into Roanoke and go 11 to salem I think . I remember Salem pretty well so I should have no trouble finding it.I looked on the map . Is this near where the little park with the pond is at the intersection of 11 & 460? Pretty sure I know exactly where it is.
    Cya Saturday

Ya know, I'm not an AutoKrafters shill by any means, but $160 is not that much money, and if they weren't doing them, who would? There are a lot of guys out there that would love it if they had an AutoKrafters for their favorite car, and would be happy to pay plenty more. JMO.....

As much as I could find out when I researched it a couple of years ago, there was only 1 manufacturer of these things. So chances are no matter where you buy them from, they will be the same. Just go where the best price is. I tried to get Autokrappers to just have their source stamp out the lower section, but they were not even interested in checking into it.

Has anyone here ever delt with Sherman and Assoc's directly? I'm interested in how the quality of thier repair panels are.
